I am a nursing student in the state of Tennessee. Right now I am not allowed to return to school because I failed O.B. lab and lecture, and prior to this, the first semister I failed Health Assessement, and Pharm. My husband went to Iraq on short notice for 1 1/2 and I just couldn't seem to get a grasp, on anything. My instructor told me that in the state of Tennessee you cannot make 2 D's in nursing classes and clinicals and continue your education. I have over 150 credits because I changed my major due to the gossip of our P.A. program losing it's accredition. Six months later, the P.A. program no longer exsisted. Could someone please tell how I can further my education. Is it possible for me to go through excelsior to finish my education? Your response would be greatly apperciated. Nursing is all I'm good at.
Thank you for your response. I have made every attempt to speak with the director of the nursing program, but she has made it clear that she cannot help me. I plan on speaking with my employer tomorrow about Excelsior because I am doing a nurse intership and I hope and believe that I will be able to keep it. If I don't obtain a licinse in the state of Tennessee, can't I apply for one?
Again, please check directly with the BON for your state. The issue is that your transcript from that school will follow you forever. It will not disappear as it is considered part of your professional training.
It is out of your Director's hands since it is a ruling by your state BON. And there is significant difference with one D in a nursing curriculum versus two of them. That is where you are having issues.
Next thing is that Excelsior requires that you have LPN after your name before you can enter their program, or have been a respiratory therapist, physical therapist, paramedic, etc. to get into their program. It is not meant to just finish up courses there.
Please take the time to speak with the BON for your state before you spend any money on any program for nursing anywhere.
Students that do not pass the med exam after three tries have to leave the program. This does happen, not matter where the school is.

I am a nursing student that recently just failed my first class in nursing school. Is there truly hope that a student in this situation can still pursue a career in nursing. I have heard nothing but negative feedback class of 2008
