Does anyone have thoughts about the NCC RN program? If there is anyone who is currently a student there or who graduated from this program I would really appreciate you sharing what your experience there was like! Thanks

Just a quick note, 'cause I'm sick & have to get up early in the a.m.

I graduated from NCC in Dec. 05. It is a great program. It is also inexpensive. It is tough, but fair and the hospitals in the area think very highly of their graduates.

I'll try to post a longer post tomorrow evening and be more specific.

G'night...

Thanks for responding! I'm glad to hear it's a great program and that its fair. I look forward to hearing more about your experience!

Hi JP,

I'm back, still sick - head cold/sinus - but not working today and feeling a bit energetic so here goes.

First things first...

The nursing program is highly competitive - last stats I heard were 700 applicants for 35-70 slots. There are 35 slots normally and then during a year when they have evening/weekend program (odd years I believe) there are 70 slots. Now all of this info is a couple of years old so it may or may not have changed.

What can make you more likely to get in are high grades (like A's in you prerequisite courses). Take as many as you can and do well. That is the best predicter of success in the program so it is the best help for getting in.

Clinical sites:

Lehigh Valley Hospital (Muhlenberg only)

St. Luke's Quakertown & Bethlehem, and I think Allentown

Easton Hospital

Pocono Medical Center

Various nursing homes for 3 weeks of first semester and then again for Geriatric nursing.

Hospice/Surgery days

Professors for lectures were great with the exception of only one that most people didn't care for. There was also someone teaching maternity that a lot of people had difficulty with passing, but I did not and thought she was good but tough. Don't think she is there anymore anyway.

The program is good with adequate clinical time. The lab is good and has a lot of open hours for you to go and practice skills.

Feel free to pm me if you would like more information. I'm happy to help.

FREE ADVICE: I suggest you get a job as a tech in a hospital if you are able. It is great experience and helps you to be more comfortable with patients. This really helps a lot in nursing school.

Good luck!
