Does anyone have any experience with or know anyone that attends the LPN program at North Metro Technical College in Acworth? I am thinking about attending and would love to get some input.
Thanks
Well, as an update, I took the chance and applied for the summer 2005 program and got in. So far it is a good school, this will be the thrid class started there, and I will let you know more as I go along.

I will be attending NMT as of this July to complete my pre-reqs in hopes of entering the nursing program there.
Does the program begin every Summer? I thought it started in Winter for some reason.

They start new classes in January and July, but today they announced that they will be starting a third class in October. So now they will be having three classes a year, and they hope to start a forth before to long. 75 people applied for the July and only 20 of us got in. They don't do waiting lists like so many other schools, if you don't get in just try again next time.
Do you have any classes already done? Feel free to write me with any questions you have.
I don't really have any of my pre-req's already finished. I attended college for a couple of semesters years ago, but happened to take courses that wouldn't transfer. I did take AP English in high school, though, so I am able to exempt that.
In Summer I will be taking A&P, Intro to Healthcare, Intro to Psych and Medical Terminology. Do you remember having particular trouble with any of these courses? I am not sure what I am in for.
I am curious, how many tries did it take you to get into the program? Is there anything I can do to give myself an "edge" when it comes time to apply?
Any advice you can offer on this massive undertaking would be so much appreciated. :)

A/P will be the most difficult class of that group, Dr Decker is the best instructor for A/P, he covers the material well and does good reviews for his exams. I had psych many years ago when I first went to college so I don't know about any of the instructors, sorry. Intro to HC and med term will be easy classes if you have any past history in medicine.
I got in to the LPN program on my first try, I have an long history of working in medicine and veterinary medicine and that gave me a lead on some of the competition. My best advice is to get to know the instructors and staff, but stay professional, a couple of people did not get into the program because they were too casual about the interview. Study and get good grades, they are very important, everyone that got in that I know(almost half of us) had a 4.0. There are student organizations on campus, HOSA is a good one to get involved with for allied heath students try and attend a meeting or two. There are bullitan boards around the school look for information about meetings and times. And the best advise...don't be afraid to ask questions of fellow students and staff, we are all going through this together. Hope I answered some of your questions, feel free to ask more.
The only other question I can think of right now is about the entrance test. What sort of material is on the test? When in relation to applying for the program should I take the test?
Thanks so much for all of your help!

The DETs are not too difficult, but it would be wise to study for them, you can take them twice a year and your best score will be taken from the two. There is a study guide in the bookstore, but see if you can find someone that has a copy of it and buy it used(save yourself the money you will need it later), look at the boards around school or post that you are looking for a copy of the book. The study guide does cover the material well, and will give you a good base for the DET. BTW, the people that got into the program had a DET score of 23(out of 30) or better. I would complete the first semester of classes and study for the DET at that time, most take the DET the semester before applying.
Thanks. :)
My advisor mentioned during orientation that the LPN program "double-weighs" the English portion of the test. Is the score of 23 that you mentioned the original test score, or the score after the English portion is doubled?
I ask this because Math is my weakness and I excel in English, so that could help me out a lot. :)
One last question, how indepth does the DET go in to the math portion? Could you say Algebra I, Algebra II, etc.? I would like to have a good idea of how much to study beforehand. Thanks yet again!

The score I gave you was a score after going through a formula. You can find out what the orginal scores are but the staff plugs them into a math formula and they get the score they are looking for, and yes the english is double scored. It has been almost 20 years since I had a math class but most of the questions are basic algebra, formulas, graphs, and conversions. The best way to get an idea of exactly what is on the DET is look at the study guide in the bookstore it has everything in it.
Thank you once again for all of your help. You are the only person I have been able to speak with about NMT, so all of these questions you are so graciously answering help me out a lot. :) I will try to keep them to a minimum, really.
I am applying for the program for the first time in anticipation of Winter quarter. I have Summer and Fall full of pre-reqs beforehand, though. I know that when the time comes to put in applications they will put a notice up on the bulletin board. If the fall semester isn't over when I put my application in (but all pre-reqs will be finished before Winter), will I still have hopes of getting in? Will they only look at my current GPA?
Thanks yet again.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, we have been getting ready for finals this week. Yes, you will still be able to get in, I have three classes this last semester and had no problem getting in. When you go for your interview you will get paperwork for each of the instructors you have a class with, they have to fill it out(basiclly asking your grade in the class) and you return it to the office. They do look at GPA at prior schools, but it does not play a major(at this time) role in your GPA taken at NMTC.
