GTCC Fall 2009

U.S.A. North Carolina

Hi...I was wondering if anyone wait listed has heard anything from GTCC. I think the deadline to have your immunizations record and physical turned in is the 5th but I'm just trying to figure out what my chances are. Does anyone know how many people are on the alternate list?

Thanks,

Tiff

We usually didn't know our full schedules (clinical hours) until classes actually started.

Do you get to choose whether your hours are during the day or at night?

today i went to the school and they told me that we would recieve our schedule the day of orientation, and then if there is some kind of descreprensy they would sit down with you and try to work something out. i did not ask wether we get to choose day or night, but i guess we'll find out here in about 2 weeks. lol.

also i don't know if anyone has applied for financial aid there, but the lady told me we should be able to find out next month how much we are to get. my first yr applying for financial aid, so i am really hoping that i get enough to pay for books and tuition.

They already had us placed in our clinical rotations, we didn't get to pick. If we had a problem with the hours, then we could switch with other classmates who wanted one of the other clinical hours. They will also work with you, like if you work or something during the hours of your clinicals. When we were seniors, though, they let us pick our clinicals one time. lol

anyone else starting the nursing program @ gtcc this fall!??!?!

I have a question about how many pts did you have. I am curious as to how many points are competitive/waitlist etc. I think I will have about 31 pts. I am interested in the evening program. Man I am looking for evening and have been accepted to ECPI, but I am not sure about it I would rather get my RN. It is complicated also and I have a degree already so I can't get grants.

Same here...second degree student. I've already taken out about $38,000 in loans from both my previous degree and WSSU (pre-reqs) The combined max for both subsidized and unsubsidized loans for an independent student is $57,700. I'm praying to God I don't reach that amount by the time I graduate.

Anyway, to answer your question. I think I had somewhere between 45 and 49 points. Unfortunately for me I got a C in both A&P 1 and 2 so I did not receive any points for those two classes. They award you 10 or 8 points for A's and 8 or 6 points for B's...I can't remember which.

I think you have a pretty decent chance of at least being put on the alternate list which really isn't a bad place to be...I'm living proof of that!

I was #10 on the alternate list and I've spoken with a classmate who I believe was #29.

Good luck!

Thanks, those are my points without having a&P II I think I am going to go ahead and apply for the spring of 2010 and see. I also am undecided about ECPI, because I would have to drive from Jamestown from Mebane Nc and back,, it is not bad, but if I get the LPN and Ican do a transisiton program. I would incur about 60 thousand from previous loans and then the ECPI, wow. So I really would rather drive to GTCC, but if I don't get in I don't want to wait, I am already almost 31 years old. Thanks for the info I wonder how many people get in off the wait list? Do people prefer day or night?

I'm not sure how many people are accepted from the alternate list. I think they have more applicants for the fall semester than they do for spring. I would like to think that mostly older students with jobs and a family apply for the spring program. I think the number of students admitted depends on how many students are currently in the nursing program. I want to say they can have no more than 140 students each year but don't quote me b/c I'm really not sure.

wasadoggynurse- i am starting the nursing program this fall and was on the alternate list #29. i was sure that i would have to wait til next yr to reapply, but sure enough i got in. 31 is a good number of pts, i would apply and see what happens. you never know until you try. also you said those are your pts without a&p ii, i would def take that this fall. as for the amount of pts for the grades for a&p. a= 12, b=8, and c doesn't get any! i would if i were you take a&p ii with another class, maybe something not too hard because i would try my best to get an a or b! that would make a world of difference, then you would def be either on the alternate list or even get in. it is possible to make good grades in a&p, i had an a in a&p i and barely scraped by with a b in a&p ii! but that is just my advice as far as classes and stuff go. also if you haven't taken the teas yet, i would go ahead and get the ati study guide and start looking over the book. then would take it about a month prior to when you apply for spring.

i can see where you are in quite a predicament about the ecpi and gtcc thing about driving. honestly if you're really wanting a concrete answer about wether you should just wait and apply at gtcc or go to ecpi talk to a counselor @ gtcc and see how good your chances are. i am not completely sure, but it seems to me and i am just assuming, that the eveing/weekend program would be harder to get into because of ppl having to work around work schedules. but then again a girl i know, got right in the 1st yr she applied for the evening weekend program. well i hope this answers any of the questions you may have, if you have any more than just let me know and i will be glad to help to the best of my ability!

motivated one- i cannot believe that we start our first day of nursing school in 18 days! wow, i am seriously freaking out! haha! btw have you heard anything about the drug test and background check that we are supposed to do before the 1st day of clinicals?! they said that they were gonna send us an e-mail about it, but i have yet to receieve anything! also i keep on trying to get on moodle so i can read the nursing policy thing they told us to read and then sign, well nothing is on there right now! ugh! lol! also pm me ur teachers, i just found out mine tonight on web advisor, i sure hope i got some good ones!

Great decision wasadoggynurse! Sounds like me a few years ago. I got in the first time I applied to the evening/weekend option TWICE...
