GTCC Fall 2009

No longer on the "alternate list" I've been accepted...Hallelujah!!!!

:yeah:Congrats! I was thinking of applying there for spring 2011. I am currently working on my pre-reqs for RCC right now, that's where I would like to go but if I don't get in next fall then I want to apply for GTCC's spring RN-ADN program.

Did you have to wait long or was this your first year applying there? I'm curious because it seems like a bigger school compared to RCC so the chances of having to wait a few years scared me away.

I applied only once for this upcoming fall semester. I think the deadline was February 10th or 12th and I received my notice that I was placed on the alternate list and my alternate number like either late March or early April...can't remember the exact date. We were to submit a copy of our immunization records and physical by May 5th to still be considered...this is including those who were already admitted. Like May 11th I got a call letting me know that my alternate number had come up and they asked if I still wanted a seat. Of course I said yes! So I really didn't have to wait long but it seemed like forever!

I had considered RCC but they only accept apps once a year if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure which entrance exam you have to take at RCC but if you have to take the TEAS test I would apply to just about every CC in the area that accepts the TEAS that way if you pass and you don't get in at your first choice you'd have a back up.

I also applied at GTCC and got in the nursing program the first time. Jus graduated last semester. B ready for some HARD work! Good Luck and Congrats!

congrats to everyone that got accepted, it's about time we had a gtcc forum lol! i was on the alternate list and just got my call about 2 weeks ago asking if i wanted to accept my seat! i was like omg of course! lol! anyway, i have been waiting for about 2 yrs now, so i cannot wait!

i am really nervous about pharmocology, my friend is taking it this summer and she says it's really really tough, alot of information! she said that at the end of the class she has to take the dosage calculation test and if you don't pass with 90% or higher than you fail the class and are put on probation for a year and cannot start anymore nursing classes until the following year! yikes! well once august gets here i would definately like to start up a study group, so to anyone that's interested just let me know!

First your'e gonna start out with pharmacology and fundamentals, so refresh your math skills. Mostly ratio porportions and conversions. So remember all that stuff you probably learned in chemistry like 15mL = 1 Tbsp and 5mL = 1 tsp. The big one you always gotta remember is 2.2 lbs. = 1 kg. Also refresh on your medical terminology.(b.i.d.,t.i.d., prn, stat,qd, D/C, etc..) In fundamentals, we started out just getting to know a little about nursing, such as who Florence Nightingale was and the history of nursing and nursing today. You can go ahead and get familiar with the meaning to these words because you'll use them in NUR 110: autonomy, accountability, caregiver, advocate, code of ethics, medicaid, medicare, DRGs, capitation, PPO, delegation, holistic, ethnocentrism, etc.... You might want to brush up on normal behaviors of different cultures such as the 'mal de ojo' (evil eye) with the Hispanic population because we started with this from the start of the first semester. Also, you can learn about the different levels of health care such as preventive, primary, secondary, and tertiary care, if you still have time on your hands this summer. I remember our first assignment was to define the word 'health' in our own words. This will give you a head start in the class if you can cover alot of this info this summer. Good Luck!

cece,rn- thanks for all the information that you posted up, i'm sure all of this will keep me busy this summer. i definately need to brush up on my math, i am really good with ratio proportions but am starting from scratch with conversions since i haven't had to use them in forever. (if you don't use it, you lose it) most of the words that you put that will be covered in nur 110 i am already familiar with, as we went over some of that stuff in my cna class so i'm a little relieved that some of that will be just a review. we did go over quite a bit of medical terminology as well, but don't really remember a whole lot of it.

since you went to gtcc, how did they go about giving you your schedule?! b/c they make your schedule and i was wondering when i should be getting that so i can register for the classes and get my books. we have an orientation day on the 26th of this month, so i was thinking maybe we will get it then.
