Ferritin is iron STORED in the body for future use.. chronic iron deficiency can show low ferritin levels, as can depleted protein levels as ferritin is a protein that stores iron in you body.
You can have appropriate hgb/hct levels for awhile, even if your ferritin levels are low... because you haven't reached the bottom of the "stored iron barrel" yet.
Transferrin saturation (TSAT) measures how MUCH of that stored iron can be used to make new red blood cells.

Chronic iron deficienty.
How can you get the "stored" levels up? Correct the chronic iron deficiency?
That and /or IV ferritin.
Both of you!
More than welcome ! :)
