NOC shift CNAs

I just recently went from AM shift to NOC shift. When I was on AM shift, we were required to get patients up for breakfast and to the dining room. This could be as many as 5 residents and for others, at the very least two. I never complained about this and helped out my co-workers so everyone was on schedule. Now that I'm on NOC shift, my AM shift co-workers have gone and complained that the staff on NOC is "lazy" and asking what exactly what we're doing that we can't get every resident up for breakfast. We get up at the very least 1 and for heavier runs, we'll get up 2 residents. If we're short staffed we'll get up as many as we have time to get up. I really thought that we were helping out AM shift. We do have a 1 CNA to 20 residents ratio at night, sometimes more...

Now there's new requirements for our shift. We must get up all residents, with the exception of 4 that AM shift has to get up. What's it like at your facility, what do they expect of NOC shift?

what is NOC? :)

I asked the same thing where I work; nobody knew where the word came from. (Noc)

Guess it came from Nocturn, meaning night.

Our Noc shift is 10pm - 6:30am. I had 4 to get up and dressed out of 20, in an Alz unit.

And I agree - starting to get people up at 4:30 is obsene.

Hey, maybe that's why they fall asleep at breakfast.... ya think?

I worked 3rds at my last job and I had to get up 8 residents in the morning. This was on the dementia unit, so there were only 15 residents. Yeah, the day shift aide only had to get up 7, and she also got all of the independent ones, so she actually only had to get up 3. It's wrong.

I always love how people say night shift does nothing! I take care of 30 residents, of that only 2 can walk themselves to the bathroom. I have 4 bed checks were I must check all of those residents, I have paperwork (which is all done on a computer system, so it takes twice as long as paperwork should) and I have for 5-7 in the morning to get up. Of that 1 is a highly combative man who is a hoyer lift, 2 more are hoyers that are total care, 2 are easy stands that are extensive assist, 2 are extensive assist that transfer with a gait belt, and 1 of my residents will actually walk to the bathroom and assist with getting herself ready! And guess what...Day shift still complains! I'm 18 yrs. old and have been a cna for a month, and this has really made me seriously never want to be a cna again.
