It's a myth that they are trying to "phase out LPNs".
However, many hospitals, including the one I work in currently are limiting the number of LPNs at the bedside. Primarily to meet standards that all patients "recieve an RN level of care" (whatever that is). Right now we have about 15 RN positions open, and no LPN positions.
LPNs will never be phased out of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, however. Here in FL, where we have an aged population LPNs rule LTC and make good money, with much responsibility. There remains good opportunity for the LPN in today's health care environment. You just have to be a bit more flexible.
If your goal is to become an RN, it's best that you stay focused on that.
Good luck.
Ah...no time to waste at your advanced age. LOL Just kidding, I'm older than you. Read this: https://allnurses.com/forums/f200/anyone-start-their-career-late-life-125963.html

:confused:There are no standalone LPN programs in Northern NV and I don't see a lot of want ads for them. I see that most other cities have practical nursing programs, but a couple of nurses told me "they're trying to phase out LPNs." With the shortage, how can that be true?
