I'm starting a new contract on 1/4 and have not received first day instructions yet. I'm a bit apprehensive because I doubt the hospital will be sending instructions tomorrow or over the holiday weekend. My recruiter checked this morning, but is now out of the office for the weekend.
Is it inappropriate to call the manager with whom I interviewed?
If I can't get any information, I'm planning on showing up at HR on Monday at 0745.
Does anyone else have any ideas?

Your recruiter should have provided instructions for orientation and it's her job to make the call.

I think calling your manager is a good idea and shows assertiveness and problem solving. That said, unless you have her cell, you probably cannot reach her. I might suggest calling the unit you will be working on, someone there may know where and when you show up (or the manager's cell number). Another option is to call the hospital operator and ask for the house supervisor - they should know. It is also possible that no one knows where or when you should show up except HR and I'm not sure they would have an admin on call.
Your agency should also have someone on call this weekend. Call them and let them work it out. Have they never placed anyone at this hospital before to know the routine?
Ned, I'm quite confused by my agency's response to this whole situation. Apparently they have 11 travelers at the hospital already, so I didn't think this would be so difficult.
I spoke to my unit manager- she gave me some good information for the first day, but still nothing specific.
I'm going to call the on-call for my agency on Sunday and see if they have any information from the facility- all week I was told it was "coming later this week."

I've ran into this a few times where the recruiter or manager forgets to provide specific details of what part of the hospital you go to the first day, who do you contact, etc. Usually I figure it out before the weekend so that I can still reach someone before admin is off for the weekend/holiday. Worst case scenario I would be at HR at 07:45 Monday and ask them to direct you. They should be able to call someone and get you to the orientation room that you'll surely end up going to.
