No Deaconess for NY students?

I submitted an inquiry to Deaconess for more info on their LPN-RN bridge program, but got the response that they do not accept NY students. Does anyone know anything about this? I want them because they are financial aid acceptable, wherein Excelsior is not. (Except for TAP, which is only reimbursable at the end of the "year" :o ).

Also, Deaconess requires no pre-reqs, so I could plug away at them this year one class at a time while I went to school for my LPN, then I would only need an additional year for nursing classes...however, if I'm not mistaken, you need your LPN license before you can even apply to Excelsior to start doing pre-reqs. So, my question (FINALLY :uhoh3: ) is: Has anyone in NY attended Deaconess, and if so, what channels did you follow?

That's very interesting. Why wouldn't they accept students from NY? Did you call the NY SBON? I would think they could give you some information. If NY accepts EC then why wouldn't they accept Deaconess? Something doesn't seem quite right. Deaconess has students from all around the world so I am curious as to what you find out. Keep us posted.

Good Luck

I would imagine that they don't accept NY students because the NY BON has decided that it won't accept their program as acceptable to be able to sit for the NCLEX. Each state BON approves or accredits (or whatever they want to call it ...) programs which it considers acceptable preparation to be a nurse in that state.

Wasn't there a thread somewhere here just recently about how CA has decided that it is no longer going to accept Excelsior? Same principle ... Each state gets to set its own standards and make its own decisions.
