No Callbacks From Hospitals

Published

Hi- I'm an RN student who'll be starting clinicals in the fall. I completed my CNA certification in March and have been looking for work since the semester ended in early May. In my area there are two large hospitals, and I have applied to literally dozens of open CNA positions at both of them. I've given one over-the-phone interview and one in person, but both were to no avail. I've been denied on every single position!

I have no experience, which obviously counts against me in this arena. I'm also honest about disclosing the fact that I'll be returning to full-time student status in the fall, and I'm wondering if this is hurting me in the application process as well. But it seems so strange to me that there would be so many CNAs out there to take these positions!

What do you all think? CNAs currently working at hospitals, did you and most of your coworkers already have experience? Can anyone offer any insight for why I'm getting shut down? It's pretty depressing. Thanks!

Since my CNA certification, I have been applying and applying. I got a job with no experience at a LTC facility for about 3 months (the chaotic-ness wasn't for me :/) then I got my Phlebotomy Cert and worked at a Blood Bank for 4 months before getting a call from a hospital. Now, during those few months I have been applying religiously to the all (3 major ones in my area) hospitals. I am now Prn (with FT hrs) and a huge pay increase than my previous positions. They actually loved the fact I was in pre-nursing and are working with my school schedule.

I don't get FT benefits, but my fiance is a FT employee at my school and I will hop on his when we marry this fall :3

I JUST read your latest comment and grats :D lol

I would try to find a job in a nursing home or a care facility. Generally, they are more understanding of nursing students and their schedules. Hospitals tend to hire people that could work full time (12 hours) with open availability. Since you will be attending college in the fall and you are not fully available that may be why they aren't calling you back!

I had to do 2 years in LTC before I landed a job as a hospital CNA. Just keep trying, and call them and let them know you're interested. Also, If you have limited availability due to school that wont help either.
