You are working and are busy but it is your turn for admit. Charge nurse says s/he will do the admit for you. At the end of shift, you find that the CN did ONLY the hx and did not communicate to you that fall risk, braden scale, head to toe assessment etc was not complete. WWYD?

Honestly, even if the charge nurse said she was doing your admission, the nurse assigned to that patient should still be assessing the patient because if anything happens with that patient the nurse assigned would be responsible. There's nothing worse than having a doctor asking for a piece of data and having to say "Uhmm.. I dunno." because you didn't assess the patient.
Live and learn! :)
Exactly what I thought about it! lol

To me, when the charge nurse says that she will "do" an admission for me, that means that she will settle the patient in and begin processing the orders, but that I will still need to assess the patient, provide that patient's care, and tie up any loose ends when I'm not quite so busy. I guess it depends on what "doing" an admission for someone means in your particular facility.

I do admits and discharges at a charge nurse. I do the history and the med rec, but I don't do the assessment. That is the attending nurses job.
