NLN Pre entrance exam- Driving me nuts

Published

I've been studying the Pre- Entrance exam book for two weeks now and I am scared out of my mind to take this test. I am due to take the test on April the 24th. The practice test is extremely hard! This book is scaring me and I am losing sleep over it. The vocab part is a killer. I took the math practice test and did ok. I haven't started the science portion yet. Is the test as hard as the practice test in the book? I am so nervous.....Please ease my heart.....:uhoh3:I need some inspiration right now....

Hi - What review book are you using? If you are using the one published by the NLN, then yes, the test is the same. They don't use the same questions that are in the book, but they are the same format and the same material is covered. My suggestion would be to keep studying it and keep taking the practice tests over and over and over. The practice tests help to absorb the information and even though the questions aren't the same on the test, you will recognize the information and it will help in picking the right answer. Try to relax, you can do it! Good luck!!

I can't take time to search my posts, but search for HESI, TEAS, and PAX posts that I made here. I listed the study materials that I used. This is the NLN PAX, right? I got a 99 on it. English, math, reading, grammar: all the same, not matter what test. All study guides cover it.

Had some physics on it but mostly electrical resistance.

I can't recall what all was on the test now. But the science was not as difficult as the study guides' questions. The HESI pre-entrance, the schools can customize. I'm not sure about PAX / NLN. But I took it without ever looking at a NLN prep guide. I just used my HESI book, the other materials I listed, and that free site online.

I have a scan of some physics stuff that I can email you. PM me if interested. It has resistance and vector problems. It's actually applied math from an old math book, but it explains the physics and then shows how to do the math.

quizlet.com and type in hesi or hesi a-2 for flash cards that include A&P. All these tests are pretty much the same material.

There are a few other threads going on this topic. Before I took the test(s) I used the search here and read through the threads.

Hello,

I took the NLN-PAX in November, and I also studied from the Pre-Entrence Exam book. I would stay just keep on studying the practice tests until you feel confiddent enough to know most of the problems. I think there was a few on the Math portion that I was just never going to get. The vocab was pretty difficult, I didn't spend much time studying that ( Prob. should have) I would suggest that you time yourself with the given times the Practice book gives you. I finished early but on some sections, it felt like I might run out of time. Overall, I think the test was hard, but It is definetly Do-able! I think overall I got an 87 for ADN students, Math was my highest score, and Reading and Vocab was my lowest. Stay focused and keep practicing you will do great!!!

I took the NLN last year and am currently a student at Phillips Beth Israel. I scored a 152 composite and a 99 percentile overall. I saw this thread and wanted to share what worked for me because it might help you as well.

To help me study for the vocabulary on the test, I used the website freerice.com. It is a website that tests your vocabulary; with each question answered correctly, it increases in difficulty. It really helped me with the vocabulary.

To help me study for the science section, I used the blue Baron's Regents Review guide for both biology and chemistry. It's a pretty long read (I read the whole thing), but it's very helpful.

I don't have a suggestion for the math section, except to use the NLN review guide questions as practice.

I really hope your NLN exam goes well and good luck studying.
