Hello all,
I just took the NLN RN pre-admission test last Friday. The test administrator said that we should have our results in a week to two weeks, but I'm already driving myself nuts! I felt like I did well on the test and it seemed easier than the practice tests in the study book (except for the science section). Just based on my gut feeling, I'd say I got 52 out of 60 correct on the verbal section, 36 out of 40 correct on the math section, and 45 out of 60 correct on the science - this last is a very pessimistic speculation. Can anyone give me an idea where my percentile ranking will be, based on the number of correct answers I think I had? Thanks a million in advance!

Based on those scores, you might be in the mid 90's (percentile).
The results are usually mailed in a timely manner. I got my in 12 days.
Good luck.
:thankya: Thank you, Susan, for your prompt reply. Even though this will be the longest 1-2 weeks of my life, your info has given me optimism. I'm 38 and I'm getting ready to leave a very successful (yet, unfulfilling) career to return to school to be a nurse. Whether I'm accepted into the nursing program largely depends on my NLN-RN score. If I have a composite percentile in the high 80th to low 90th, I think I have a great chance of being accepted. Thank you again!
:thankya:
You're welcome. I am an older student (44) returning to college too. The RN program that I applied to is VERY competitive (40 seats for 900 applicants), so even though I scored in the low 90's, I don't know if that will be enough.
I also applied for an LPN program and scored in the 99th percentile for that test, so I will go that route if I don't get accepted into the RN program.
Do you have a back-up plan?
Well, the program I'm interested in isn't quite as competitive, so a mid-high 80th percentile should get me in, but, if I don't get in, the school also offers a radiography program that I can take. I'm going to remain hopeful about the ADN nursing program, though. They usually have 300-400 people apply for 30 spaces, so I should be able to get in. As soon as I get my score back, I'm going to talk to some people at the school and see if they can give me some idea what my chances are, based on past experience.
I got my NLN RN score back today - 99th PERCENTILE!!!!!! The program I'm shooting for is pretty competitive, but people have gotten in with lower percentiles. As long as I keep my GPA up, I feel comfortable that I'll get in. WHEW!

Wow...that's fantastic. Sounds like you'll get in!!
I feel like I will, as long as I keep my GPA up. Good luck to you, as well, and thanks for the vote of confidence!
How far along are you in your program? I'm working on core right now....just starting out, actually. I had a few classes transfer over from my business degree pursuit. I won't be able to apply until February of next year...then it will be June before the selections are made for the program. I'm just going to work on my classes, stay focused, and give 100%. I'm really excited...it's like beginning an adventure....ya know?
I feel good about getting in, as long as I keep my GPA up. Thanks for the vote of confidence.
How far along are you in the program? I'm just starting out..working on core classes. I will be applying for the ADN Nursing program next Feb. Selections will be announced in June (2007). The progam begins in Sept. I will be working on core until then. If I get to take 2 courses per quarter, I'll be able to take next summer off.
Good luck to you!
Oh, so you are applying for Sept 2007 admission...why didn't you apply now...just in case there is a waiting list?
I have been taking pre-reqs for 2 semester, but will be done this summer with all of them. Many of my classes from my first degree transferred.
I just got my acceptance letter for the LPN program that I applied to. So if I do not get into the RN program, I will start the Sept. 2006 LPN program. Then do the bridge to RN after that.
You sound like you are in a good position so far, but just to be safe, are you applying to more than one school?
I got scheduled for the NLN too late to make the Feb 1 deadline for this year. I thought about applying for the LPN program...that deadline is April 1, but I talked to lots of LPN's and they all said that, if I was just starting out, go ahead and take the RN program instead of bridging later. I'm taking a huge risk by putting all my eggs in one basket, so to speak, but that will just make me more determined. I could only register for one program because of the HOPE grant. If things do fall through, I can take a less competitive course...radiography maybe.

Cherryswitch,
I take my NLN pre-admission test in April, and I'm really nervous -- so much riding on one test. I have been working through the review guide by McDonald this week, but it would be a tremendous help if you could advise on where to focus my study efforts. I'm not worried about the verbal section, however, math & science: Yikes! I've been out of school for 20 years and never took physics at all. I use dimensional analysis well, but I don't really know what conversion factors or formulas to memorize. Can you help?
Thank you, and congratulations on the 99th percentile!
