I've applied to Traviss Career Center in Lakeland, FL. I used Peterson's Master Nursing School & Allied Health Entrance Exam, 18th Ed. to study with and really wish I'd have spent my money another guide. I'll be really honest with you...I was told by a few others that the test wasn't anything to worry about and that I'd breeze right though. I bought the book as an afterthought a week prior to the test. If I could do it differently, I'd buy the guide everyone else seems to have success with ("Review Guide for LPN/LVN Pre-Entrance Exam" by Mary McDonald) and start studying weeks sooner.
Not to mention that I've been out of school for nearly 20 years now...I'm sure THAT had something to do with it too!
I also took the NLN on the 17th at Traviss. I got a 120 on the composite score and an 82 on the composite percentile score. I understood that we needed to pass this test with at least a 50%. I am hoping that means since I got an 82 I passed. I also have been out of school for going on 20 years and this kicked my butt. I too did not buy the recommended study guide, I bought Barron's Nursing School Entrance Exams. Stuff that was on the verbal and science part of the NLN test were not discussed in this book. The reason I bought this study guide is because I could not find the other one, I was going to have to order it and I did not want to wait. Next time I will wait. I hate waiting the four weeks also, but as the saying goes: "good things come to those that wait." I was going to take the night class but was contemplating going to the day class and try to find a part time night job.
It's nice to know some current, past and future Traviss students frequent this board! The more I read about the admissions process and see what other people have scored it makes me feel a bit better. Again, the whole being out of school for so many years thing has me a bit spooked. And not to mention where I'm going to pull all of my study time from after working all day, but isn't that the same issue we ALL are going to have? Good luck everyone! It's nice to know I'm not alone :heartbeat.
I took my test this month and got a 124 in the 86%. I am applying to a smaller community college and I do know that someone got in last year with a lower score. I am not sure what size your school is, but the bigger it is the more competition you have. I thought it was a really good score until I read some of the others on this site! Seems like they are all mostly in the 130's and up. I dont know maybe people with lower scores just dont want to post them and I understand. It's just making me freak out a bit. Good luck to everyone and please update :)
Alexa123- I know how you feel. I have been out of school for 9 yrs. The verbal part was pretty crazy. I felt like I was guessing on most of them. I just don't want to take it over. Our deadline is March 1, so starting next week I am going to be a crazy person until I get that letter. Ugh, it makes me sick just thinking about.

Holy. Crap. I am so confused and frustrated that I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I took the NLN entrance exam earlier this morning and after getting to the Science portion, I was dumbfounded. I was totally unprepared for that portion of the test and to make matters worse, I do not know how to interpret my scores. From what I've read, it seems the Composite Score and the Composite Percentile Score are the 2 that are used to determine eligibility but that's useless if I don't know what my school's acceptance standards are. My composite score is 129 and the composite percentile is 91. Again, back to the same dilemma: laugh or cry? 4 weeks of waiting and worrying now....sigh.
