NJCU ABSN 2016

Anyone applying? Have you taken the HESI? Thought it would be helpful to share experiences.

I'm applying to the Jersey City campus. I did the HESI earlier this week and got a composite score of 96. I prepared using the Elsevier prep book 2 days before the exam. I wouldn't advise doing that if the materials aren't fresh in your mind though, I just finished up my A&P in December.

Is everyone's app complete or are you still pending on transcripts? I sent mine in almost a month ago and one of them still pending. Anyone with previous healthcare experience? I hear its a plus if your resume indicates previous pt contact.

Hey all,

Just took the HESI A2 on Thursday and scored a cumulative 94.67; I studied the guides I mentioned in my previous post, and made sure I was well-acquainted with Biology concepts along with A&P (it's been awhile for the former!). I finished the exam with an hour left, and in hindsight should have used it all up in the Math and Reading Comprehension sections to make sure I reviewed my answers more thoroughly before submitting.

Current class averages for the test sections:

(ALL SECTIONS: 80 - recommended score / 75 - national average)

84 - Math

85 - Reading Comprehension

84 - Grammar

87 - Vocabulary and General Knowledge

79 - Biology

72 - Anatomy & Physiology

I submitted my transcripts in late August for Rutgers, and it all wasn't fully verified until the middle of December! However, I did have a large volume of courses to evaluate, including post-bac and graduate courses, so that most likely also contributed to the delay. I would highly recommend contacting a rep from NursingCAS to check your status; even if we have up to a week after the deadline to allow for verification, it's still nerve-racking to have to wait for the confirmation email from NursingCAS that verification has been completed.

On another note, which essay choice did you all select? I went with the second ("Describe a book or class that has challenged the way you think."), and hoping that I was concise enough in getting my point across; 700 words does not leaves much room to be excessively descriptive :shy:

Wishing everyone well on their application process!

I took the HESI last week. Are the scores automatically sent to NJCU or do I have to send it out? The guy at the testing center didn't know

The scores are sent to NJCU directly, hence the school code used when we sign up for the test. You should also upload your scores on nursing cas; under 'standardized tests/tests'; input your scores under 'HESI'

Hello everyone,

Submitted my application on Feb 12th. Got a 93 overall on the HESI. The only thing that I think might hinder me is my GPA from my BS degree. I believe it was either 2.8 or 2.9 Hopefully I do get accepted. Good luck to all!!

I can definitely relate! But, hopefully you also have a great pre-req GPA to counter the cumulative GPA, and your essay is well-written, too. Good luck, as well!

I'm glad I found this thread! I've been searching and have only found past classes. I am also looking to be a part of the incoming accelerated nursing class in Jersey City campus. I have a similar issue with the transcripts in that I have sent it awhile ago and says not received.

Good Luck to everyone!

Good Luck to everyone!

Just checked in with NursingCAS earlier this morning (had an issue after the "academic update" availability), and they reminded that verification is the completion a calculating NursingCAS GPA, after receipt confirmation of an official transcript. If you haven't done so already, check in with the school to ensure they have sent the official transcript. Also, give NursingCAS a call to see if they are still processing the receipt of the transcript; since NJCU only gives about two weeks after this deadline and requires the application to verified, it'd be best to check in with all parties. Hopefully it gets resolved!

Just evaluated the final HESI A2 score averages, and just minor changes in a few of the subjects. This is the overall cohort (JC and Wall) scores for the 2016 application:

84 - Reading Comprehension

84 - Grammar

87 - Vocabulary and General Knowledge

85 - English Language Composite Score

78 - Biology

72 - Anatomy & Physiology

75 - Science Composite Score

82 - Math

81.16 - Cumulative Score

Pretty much in-line with the required average for application consideration.

We have around the end of February to first week of March to hear back from the admissions committee, but last cohort had an extra month before they heard back (and a little longer for the JC applicants); hopefully we won't have to wait that long this time around! Good luck, everyone!

Good luck to everyone! Keep us posted if u hear anything regarding acceptance or rejection. Either way, it will give us an idea of when the admission is sending out those letters or emails

Good luck to everyone! The email said that we should be hearing admission decisions 4-6 weeks after the final deadline of February 28th. The waiting to hear a decision seems to be the hardest part of the process!
