babies born very prematurely may be spared lifelong, disabling lung disease if nitric oxide is pumped into their lungs, two national studies have found.

the first study, led by roberta a. ballard, a children's hospital of philadelphia neonatologist, also found that nitric oxide reduced the risk of death and shortened hospitalization.

the second study, led by the university of colorado school of medicine and using a different treatment regimen, found nitric oxide reduced lung disease only in babies who weighed at least 2.2 pounds, but reduced the risk of brain injury in even tinier preemies....

I'm only trying to find out what centers are in the trial. It's used now for Mec asp and other term baby problems. What's new in this trial is the use in preterm babies.

Thanks, Anna!

I´m back at work again (no more vacation:crying2:) and talked to one of the persons in charge of the study.

It seems I have got some information wrong, it´s only european countries involved in the study (for now at least).:imbar

800 patients are expected to be a part of the study to start with. I could find out the other countries involved (she could not find the list today) if you´re still interested (even though usa doesn´t seem to be one of them...).

OK, Thanks, Anna, that does answer my question! lol

It will be interesting to watch the development as the study goes on.

We do in fact use it on pretermers with PPHN.

I forgot to ask if it's a study, but it seems the point is moot, as we're not in Europe.

we used NO 3 times since I work in NICU less than 8 months ,it was very effective.
