Seeking Good NICU in Dallas\Ft.Worth Area

Specialties NICU

Okay this is a loaded thread....Does anyone know what hospital in the Dallas\Ft.Worth,TX area has a good NICU? I mean good as far as nurse-doctor relationship, wages, nurse satisfaction, and patient advocacy. ( I live in this area and am having a hard time searching for it on the net. I posted this question in the Texas forum as well) Thanks.

How difficult is the NRP certification?

How does working nights differ from working days in the NICU? (I have only worked nights, but wanted to hear from others)

I'm currently a staff RN at the NICU at Parkland in Dallas. I really like it there....Good staff/patient ratios....teaching facility, so there are ALWAYS medical staff on the floor, from interns to residents to fellows to NNP's or attendings...I never have to worry about a cranky attending answering my call in the middle of the night, we have on unit respiratory therapists, a pharmacy within the unit with pharmacists and techs that cover about 16 hours a day, dieticians, speech therapists, OT's, child life specialists, Complete resuscitation teams, etc.

Any of our kiddos who need surgery are completely recovered and discharged from our unit (surgery is done at Children's, then they come back to us to recover), with the exception of major cardiac cases....PDA ligations are done on our unit. The pay is very comparable to other facilities, we offer a great residency program for new nurses, many opportunities for CEU's. NRP is usually done after a new nurse has been practicing for about 1-1/2 - 2 years...it required a bit of study, but not that difficult.

And no, I am not a recruiter, just trying to answer your questions. Are you already a NICU RN and looking or looking to be a NICU RN?
