Does anyone know of NICU opportunities in Hawaii other than Honolulu? We are moving in July and I would like to live on one of the neighbor islands; but, all I have found is Honolulu. Any information would be great. I also we would be willing to do general nursery. (This is also posted under Hawaii nurses)

Several of my friends have worked in Hawaii and the only NICU is there. They get kids from all the islands and other Pacific Islands.

When I did my senior preceptorship, there was a nurse talking about working at a nicu in hawaii as a traveler. I don't remember the name of the place but she hated it and I don't blame her. She said that she got assigned these old kids, like 11 yrs old, and would have to bathe them etc. Also said that some of them would go to a special school during the day, and come back to the nicu when they got back. It sounded like a nightmare, and yes she swore it was a nicu, not a picu!!

:redbeathe I am currently working at a NICU in honolulu called Kapiolani Womens Medical Center. This is a great place to work. The managers and supervisors are super supportive. I have been working here for almost a year. I Love my job and working with babies.

That's so interesting; my little sister was born there and ended up in the NICU (or special care baby?) for some hyperbili years and years ago.

To this day I remember that their visitation rules were no siblings under 12 years old. She was born in the middle of the night and I was wide awake with my Dad. He told the nurse that I was going to be 12 in 3 months...and she let me visit :)

I did a NICU travel assignment at the end of 2009 in Honolulu at Kapiolani. There are 3 NICUs in Honolulu of which the largest & most acute is Kapiolani. Ther are newborn nurseries on some of the other islands. I know there was one on the big island of Hawaii.
