Hey May 06 grads..any of you seeking NICU?

Specialties NICU

Hello all,

I just thought it might be intersting to see if there are any other 05/06 grads out there who plan to start out in the NICU? :nurse: I thought it might be fun to keep in touch and talk about looking for jobs, how our interviews go and what kind of orientation the different units offer. What do you guys think? Any takers...

Hi Tiny, I went to the Sigma Theta Tau Induction ceremony just last night. It was quite nice. You'll be individually recognized and pinned and receive a nice, purple STT cord that you can wear during graduation =). It really makes you feel like all the hardworks have been paid off. Also, Got to meet with a lot of professors, grad. students and my prof. who are also grad students and are being inducted with me!

I've joined some other honor societies (which many I've regretted), but I think STT is worthwhile for someone who is planning to stay in Nursing.

Thanks for the reply. I filled out my paperwork and paid just last night. Congrats to you also!

Have you heard anything about your job?

It's so wonderful to see other '06 grads interested in NICU :)

I just accepted a position in a level III NICU this morning (eek! I'm excited and scared at the same time). I'll be working nights 8's/12's and start general orientation in early June. Seems so close...

I'll lurking around the NICU boards in the future... just reading others' experiences is helpful and interesting. I can't wait to read about how you are all doing as the weeks go by.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to wish everyone the best Graduation will be here before we know it. I know mine is pinning is in 5 days and school wide graduation is a week away!!! woohooo..

I accepted a position in the NICU at Womens Hospital in Albuquerque NM. I currently live in wichita and let me tell you i have no idea what to expect but I took the job for several reasons. A) they are going to pay me more than I ever dreamed I would make as a New Grad B) they will pay off my student loans and C) they are paying to move me down there!!.. Now I am just scared to death about moving to a strange city..lol

Guys, I did NOT get the NICU job I interviewed for...:sniff: :           ...I know the chances are slim with so many applicants and few positions, but I thought I would have a good chance with all the extra externships I did...but apparently...   I'm so disappointed, this is the place I wanted to be working at since forever~

I've been looking around different hospitals and even different units...many of the NICU and PEDs units are filled (no nursing shortage in CA???). I wonder if I should consider Med-Surge now...the thought of not having a job upon graduation is scary... =(

((((((((C'wing)))))))) I'm soooo sorry to hear about this. :icon_hug: Did they tell you anything about why you didn't get the job? On another note, are you willing to move out of state? I know several hospitals in Arizona and surrounding states are hiring lots of people from my graduating class. I don't think you should settle for Med-Surg if NICU is what you really want. Please let us know what you end up deciding.
