Those that I have seen get hired as new grads into the NICU programs were students there, and the staff was familiar with them in most cases. And quite a few of them completed a nurse externship there while they were in school.
This is not specific to Washington, but is true in most NICUs around the country. As well as PICUs.
Best of luck to both of you as you start your new careers.
My mom works at Swedish NICU and I know they have hired new grads there, not sure how common that is or if there are current openings right now.
Well, I don't need a position until after August of 2009 because thats when I graduate from my program. Maybe this is too much to ask, but would you mind asking your mom more about it? When they hire new grads do they typically hire Washington grads, or do they not preference and hire from any state?

I am currently a nursing student, but I plan on moving to the Seattle/Tacoma/Puyallup area after I graduate with my BSN. I was wondering if anyone can recommend any great hospitals with NICU's that would hire a nurse with no previous experience?
