Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone is involved in the NHSC loan repayment plan? Please tell me your story! Was the application process hard? If you have employment with a NHSC site, do you definitely get the repayment money? How is the money disbursed? Was it difficult getting a job at a NHSC site? Any information would be helpful.

Thanks!!!

Megan

Hi Dixiecup,

I'm curious, what was your clinic's score? In a presentation about NHSC, they informed us that nothing under 16 received funding last year.

my clinic's score was 19

I'm confused. Your clinic isn't who gives you the money. NHSC is the organization that gives the money. Did you contact anyone from NHSC about why you weren't accepted into the program?

There is no guarantee that just because it is a approved site that you will get the loan repayment. Also if you get the repayment and you job ends before your commitment is completed , even if it is not your fault you have to fulfill your commitment or pay a healthy penalty. I am in that situation now where my job is being eliminated and the nearest site I have found is 1200 miles away from where I live. So I have a choice come up with the money to pay the penalty or move for 2 years to finish my commitment.

I see. Thanks for the response. Do you how what determines competitiveness for the loan selection? And how many are accepted?

Hmm I'm reading the guidelines and getting worried. Do those who did not come from a disadvantaged background have a decent shot?

If you leave before your commitment is up , it either 7100.00 a month for every month left on your commitment for full time, and 3750.00 for part time . Think twice if you don't think your job situation is stable don't do it , if you don't find a new site they will place you where they want you and not necessarily near your home. I know , this happened to me and I'm taking a job 900.00 miles from home because I still owe 2 years on my contract and can't find a site near me

Pedspnp…could you please tell me if you had already received the loan repayment and used the money to pay your loans? I am in a similar situation, however I have not received funding as of yet but signed a contract. Once I signed the contract my site decided to make me an indentured servant and doubled my patient load. I resigned and now have applied for a waiver of service. If they still try to make me pay the 7100 per month I think I will have to go on welfare. Why did you still have two years left? Thanks of much for your input.

If you have not received the money you should be fine . I would call Nhsc right away and tell them
