NGCSU- Need Info on Fall Schedule

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

I will be attending NGCSU at North Metro Tech. I'm trying to plan my schedule as I will have to work at least part time. Can anyone provide some general information on what the class schedule is going to be like.

I spoke to the office and they said lecture will be one day a week but we will have lab and of course clinicals. She said to set aside Mon, Wed and Fri.

What I would like to know is about what time of day does clinicals and Classes start and end. Aslo what days and How soon does clinicals and lab start after the semester begins.

Thanks in Advance for your help and advice.

Hi Reidme,

I'm going to be at the Gainesville Campus, but I believe our schedules will be the same.

Mondays - you have Nutrition 9-9:50, then Fundamentals 10:11:50

Your clinical day will be assigned by your advisor. My instructor told us (we had a "Gainesville Orientation for NGCSU students" last week) that for the first 6 weeks we will be in lab at the school and class will be from 9 until around 4, then we have hospital clinicals and they will start at 6:30am. She didn't say how long we'd be at the hospital, I am assuming all day. She also said if you need a specific clinical day, you can ask to change - and they try to accomodate. Your class will have 40 students, ours is only 20 and the main campus has 40. They break the clinical groups down to 10 students, because that is all an instructor can supervise.

That is all I know for now - I'm sure we will learn more on Monday or Wednesday. :)

See you next week!

Thank you 12BRN for you prompt response and for all of your help on this site. Do we really need to have all 3 days off (Mon, Wed, Fri) for lab and clinicals, an do we have them all 3 days? or lab days and clinicals 1 days?

You are quite welcome Reidme.

This year you will have class only 1/2 a day on Monday's and then either Wednesday or Friday. If you have lab/clinical on Wednesday, you will not have it on Friday - another group will. Now, next year you will have lab/clinical all day on both Wednesday and Friday and still 1/2 a day on Monday. So for instance, if I have lab/clinical on Wednesday, I will work all day on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. I'll use the 1/2 day on Monday after lecture to practice in the lab or study. We can also use the labs on the weekends at Gainesville, I'm not sure about Metro Tech. Hopefully, you'll find out more on Monday and definitely on Wednesday.

I hope this helps!

Lisa

P.S. Sorry if my first response was confusing.

Thanks again Lisa for your help. Your first response wasn't confusing it just that I needed more detailed information. This makes planning for work a whole lot easier. Good luck with school semester and in your nursing career.

Althea

Althea,

I sent an e-mail to the instructor because I have some childcare issues on Friday's. She said that classes will be on Monday's 9-12, then our clinic time for the first half of the semester will be on Wednesday's, after that the clinics will be split up. Half of the class will clinic on Wednesday's and the other half on Friday's. So for now it looks like Tues, Thurs and Friday are good work days for you.

I am very excited and hope to see you on Monday or Wednesday. When are you going up to register on Monday? Lisa and I are going to go early.

Thanks for the info Jules. You've been very helpful.

:) Hey Jules, Althea, Lisa, and others...

Do we need to plan to be in Dahlonega at 9:00 a.m. for advisement and registration, or is registration simply on a "drop-in" basis between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.? (Just trying to plan around trying to drop off my new middle-schooler Monday morning -- can't drop her off until 8:15 a.m.). We basically know we have to register for Fundamentals and Nutrition -- but do you think it's necessary to be there exactly at 9 a.m.? (I know that on Wednesday it is mandatory for us to be there at 8:45 a.m.) By the way, I am REALLY glad that we have each other to consult about all this stuff -- I would be completely lost without all you guys and the very imformative posts everyone has posted over the past few months...thanks a million!!!

Can't wait to meet all of you! :) Don't be shy -- if we possibly run into each other in the crowd, come up and say "hi!" and introduce yourself from allnurses.com! We need to all be supportive of each other -- it's the only way we'll all get through the long road ahead! :)

Here's to Class of 2007! Best wishes to all!!! :balloons:

Susan,

I was under the impression that we could just drop in on Monday, between

9-3. I am wondering if we will get more information or will they wait till Wednesday. Even though it is going to be alot of work, at this point I would like to know what to expect. I am very excited and frazzled at the same time.

Good luck with your middle schooler, its a big step. I have two boys 8th and 10th grade.

Which campus are you on?

I look forward to meeting you Monday or Wednesday.

Jules

Hi, Jules. I will be at North Metro -- is that where you will be, also?

Yes, the whole middle school thing is kinda' throwing ME for a loop -- she's handling the whole thing just fine, but I keep thinking "I'm too young to be the mother of a middle schooler!!!" Hee, hee.

Anyway, yes, I am SOOOOO excited and SOOOOO nervous, all at the same time. I've had jury duty all week this week, so that on top of everything else -- well, it's been an interesting week, to say the least. :)

I, too, wish I knew what to expect...study-wise, I mean.

I think the teachers in the elementary schools put too much fear in the minds of 5th graders regarding middle school. It really isn't that bad. Although the main difference is that they do not want parents in the school anymore. I am sure you and your daughter will do fine.

My son is beginning to drive. How can I be old enough to have kids that drive!!! My husband is going to teach him, I don't think I want that chore.

I am soo excited and can't wait to meet you and all the other nusring students. If you have a cell phone send me a private message and I'll call you Monday to see if you are on campus when I am.

Jules

Sounds great!

Regarding the driving issue, I, too, will gladly relinquish that job of teaching my kids to drive to my hubbie. I think he has more patience (and a lot more courage) than I do! LOL And, the more I think about it -- those days are not too far ahead for me, either. I have two girls and a boy -- the boy is the baby (age 6), but the girls are 8 and 11.

Oh well. Enjoy the rest of your weekend -- might be one of the last few we'll have that we aren't studying like crazy. Oh yeah -- anybody know where we'll have clinicals, yet, from North Metro?
