FYI, I'm a surgical RN, albeit first year, so listen to the vets first! Does this s/p appy really need an NG? Does this Pt have a blockage? Kinda strange scenario. Intractable N/V? Assuming she has an NG (why?) I would check placement through auscultation and let the surg resident know the output was zero if flushing didn't produce output, though it'd take more than two hours to concern me in this scenario. FYI, my mother recently had an emergency appy, and had 4 JP's, but no NG... Weird scenario, or just me?

I'm a relatively new nursing student and am having some difficulty with a question we have in our packet. It gives the scenario of a patient one day post-op from an appendectomy. She has an NG tube on low intermittent suction. The nurse goes in to do her assessment and notices there hasn't been any drainage for two hours. It then goes on to ask what the main concern is at this time and what the proper interventions are. I think I know about what to put down, but I'm not 100% positive. Any help?! Thanks!
