U.S.A. New York

Has anyone taken their exam recently?

Do any of you have some good pointers to study for their pharmacology exam?

Do you remember what types of questions were on it?

Is there anything that you would have done differently to study for it when looking back?

Thanks for any and all of your help!

I just took it a week ago yesterday. I passed by the skin of my teeth with a 83%. It was not easy I will say that...Impossible? No...There questions on everything you could think of, Side effects, Adverse effects, classifications of drugs, how drugs are given. Being a ICU RN I'm exposed to alot of the critical care drugs however there were drugs on the test that i didnt know what they were, drugs I havent heard of since nursing school. Good luck, its super nerve wracking when you press that finish button and wait for your score !

Congratulations!

I am happy for you; I hope it all works out.

I wanted to find out what's the passing score. Is it computerized, if it is can we return to previous questions. How many questions and how much time they give for it. What percentage of the exam was on Medication Administration (calculation questions) and if they provide a calculator. Was there any questions with definitions (pharmacological terms).

How did you study for it and if they gave you any hints? Can you recommend a text book or a website to study from?

Thank you so much for your response. I really appreciate your help.

Ohh It all worked out alright, I already got the job. Did you get a job offer from them or what ?

- Passing Score is 80%

- It is computerized, and you can return to previous questions. You can also 'mark' questions to remind yourself to return to them. There was 70 questions 60 of them are scored and 10 of them are for 'research purposes' and are not scored. I think i had something like 12 calculation questions and yes they do provide a calculator, however the one they gave me was pretty crappy so i just used the calculator on the computer. There was no definitions, it's a general run of the mill pharm exam.

- No there are no hints, I barely studied anything at all. The only things i went over was mcg/kg/min calculation and over TB meds and some of the odd ones you dont see all the time. So I don't know any book to get. Good luck

Thank you for the response. I am glad that you got a job. I didn't get an offer yet, but I was informed that next orientation is in 3 weeks. So I wanted to be prepared for the exam ahead of time. I was never good at pharmacology, so I'm very worried that I might not pass. I think that they give 2 chances & if you don't pass they don't hire you. It would be just a disappointment to fail :(

I am surprised that they don’t provide any studying material to prepare for the exam. I am a new grad, so I don’t know a lot of medications.

Do you at least remember any medications that they asked about?

Well first off just so you know. You wont be takin the medication exam until you are offered a job, just incase no one told you.

- Honestly it was alot of medication, some of which i didn't know.

I have one week to get ready for it. NLN recommended a book so I got that, but its alot of medications to get familiar with in a week. Do you remember any medications they might have asked about.

I don't know if anyone is still watching/reading this thread. If so, I am in my last semester of nursing school and will be doing capstone at NYP and need to take the pharm test. Any guidance would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has taken the Pharm Exam recently - not sure if it changed at all from the old posts I read. Any advice would be great - all these posts are making me nervous!

Hey,

I recently took the pharm text. I passed with an 85%... I was wondering if you took your pharm test yet? How did it go?

My question is that now that I passed the pharm test what is the next step? Does this mean I am hired?
