That's my local hospital!

There really is nothing remarkably good or remarkably bad about them. Although that is where my sister in law got her first job as a LPN and worked there for 7 years before making a career switch to public health. She really enjoyed it and said if she ever goes back to hospital work she hopes to work there again :)

I've applied for various non-nursing jobs there and could never get an interview. GOOD LUCK!

Any idea if their pay is similar to hospitals in Atlanta?

I've been volunteering at Newton Medical for almost two years now. I have rotated between PACU, med/surg floor, patient floor, and the ER, and am currently working the pharmacy. Like the above poster said, there is nothing remarkably good or bad about Newton General. All of the employees have been extremely kind, in my experience, and it seems that traffic is fairly minimal on the patient floors, and even in the ER on afternoons. PACU was always pretty active when I was scheduled there, though. Since I'm only a volunteer, there isn't much I can say regarding pay or anything of that nature, but I really do enjoy the environment and all of the people working there. The nurses on med/surg, outpatient, and patient floors are always incredibly kind and pleasant to be around.

I know that this is a very old post, but I can't find any other post in regards to Newton Medical Center.

So I'm asking mshessel, did you ever get hired at the hospital? If you did, can you relay some info in regards to the hospital? If not, did you or do you know anything more about the facility?

Newton Medical is a small community facility with only three floors and nothing too ground-breaking in terms of technology. 3 floors, typical units (med surg, tele, micu, pacu, er, etc.). That doesn't make it a bad hospital, though. The staff is wonderful and very welcoming, and there's a huge volunteer presence on the campus. It's your usual community hospital with a family-centered care philosophy. Their new grad residency is open now and the interview also consists of a med calculation test. If you're a new grad, you typically start on med/surg and advance based on your skills, hospital need, and performance.

I also have an interview there this week, so I'm not really sure about how much they pay! I know Rockdale typically pays nurses a little more, and they start new grads around $23. I've been involved at Newton for around 5 years and can tell you that most of the nurses there seem very satisfied with their work. It's a tight-knit community and everyone in the hospital seems to know each other and treat each other like family. :) Good luck!

That is typical pay in the South. I started out at $18 as a new grad a few years ago.
