Newly Registered Nurse (Philippines) : How to register in Board of Nurses in Victoria

Published

I just have my license as a Registered Nurse in Philippines and i want to be registered as an RN in Melbourne. What are the steps that i should do? Thanks

Thanks, i am reading it and it helped me.

Another thing, would it be okay to apply for an evaluation/assessment in Board of Nurses and Midwifery in Victoria, eventhough i have zero experience? I am planning to take my IELTS next year and have my assessment process next year as well.

1. I have read on this site - some posts which said that some Boards prefer to register foreign nurses with experience of 6 months to one year.

2. Suggest that you directly write to the Board or Call them on the phone and get this point cleared directly from the source.

3. For nurses from Philippines - you will have to do a bridging course. This takes 3 to 6 months and costs at least 7-8000 $ as course fee + cost of life + cost of travel. You will need a student visa for doing this course.

4. After you have finished your bridge course with a "pass" and also gotten over 7 in IELTS will a Board Register you as a nurse.

5. After Registration - do a job hunt and then get a work visa issued.

6. I estimate the cost of going to Australia, doing the course, job hunt and registration and stay etc. to range from Aus $ 12,000 to 15,000. So that should be your Budget.

7. As far as I can make out - no Agency funds any nurses for the Bridge course. You will have to do this with your own sources.

Best wishes & Good luck in your career.

Thank you so much, the informations that you gave me helped me. I emailed the Board of Nurses and it seems to be that their response is postive...

Which state has the fastest processing and the cheapest bridging program? Is it victoria? or elsewhere?

hi!..im also a newly registered nurse here in the philippines. i was wondering if new south wales will allow me to apply for registration as an RN even if i have zero experience?..thank you in advance!..

:nurse: To my understanding , there is a cheaper way of migrating to Australia with your skills as a graduate nurse from the Philippines . I think if you're under 30 , there is a type of visa called ' hmm.. can't even remember , will check it out and let you know asap. This is cheaper though, it only costs $175.00 AUSD for the visa charge besides the extras for ESL , return airfares etc. But look , it's goodpay in Aussie so you'll make more than you'll be spending anyway . Goodluck girl .... and hey , congratulations you graduated !!!! Yeah .. nursing .. the best choice !!

hi glory143

i am a bit of interested on what you are saying please inform me also if you got time, BTW i am also an fresh RN, newly passed the board last june 2007 tnx

I have my ielts and my score is 7 with 7.5 in Listening, 6.5 in Reading, 6.5 in Writing and 7 in Speaking does anyone know if this will be alright to apply in Victoria? Because i have read in their faq that they have this 6.5 in both listening and reading, 7 in both writing or speaking with total of 7. Mine is not like that, would it be okay?

hello! i also come from the Philippines. I would like to ask if the nursing board of western australia has no bias against second coursers as well as those with only six months experience as a trainee? I would really appreciate your reply! TY! :wink2:
