Newly Qualified Nursing in Canada

Published

Hi there

I am a newly qualified nurse from the UK and hoping to move out to Canada to practice. I was wondering if you knew whether this is generally possible without having first worked here? Also, before I begin the registration process, do I need to be immigration cleared, or do I do that after I have registered (if I succeed)? How long does the process generally take from start to finish, as I heard that 3 years(!) is about the average. I apologise if these questions have been asked a thousand times before, but I'd be grateful for any advice!

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Welcome to the site

Suggest a read on the forum and in the Canadian forum and I am sure you will find much already written. You need to start the registration process first. Be aware there may be issues with your training if you do not meet all requirements as generally you need theory and practical in all areas, so may have to make hours up but once you have gone through the process of the proince they will let you know if you are short or not. Where abouts do you want to live and work?
