Newly Grad Concerns

hello everyone! im a newly graduate of bachelor's degree in nursing last march 2008.. so a week after my graduation i went back right away in the country since im already a US immigrant so i didn't take the local boards in the country where i graduated for the reason that primarily, i intend to work here..

So there, i have no experience taking a board exam..

1) can someone give me an idea or tip about the taking the NCLEX?

2) how about recommended board review center?

3) is it advisable if il go for a volunteer program in the hospital while having my board review to be exposed in the practical nursing?

1. You do not apply directly for the NCLEX exam, you will be applying for licensure as an RN.

2. Immigration status is completely separate from licensure.

3. Even as an immigrant to the US, you are still a citizen of your country and hold a passport from there, so are also subject to their requirements as well.

4. You will always be considered as a foreign trained RN, even with a US passport, and will need to meet the requirements for that, and each state usually have extra steps.

5. If the state where you are applying to requires the local license, then you are going to have to sit for it, since the requirement cannot be waived for you.

If you wish to work as a nursing asst, that is one thing. But there is nothing that you can do as a volunteer that will help you in anyway.

Focus on getting the license done, but be aware that you are looking at months for any state before you will even be able to sit for the exam.

And you will be applying for licensure as an RN, the exam is just one step of the process.
