I am still a student, but I am always looking ahead and wanting to know what to expect.
I live in Memphis, and I am wondering if it is realistic to hope for a M-F 7a-3p position after graduation?? I am aware that newbies have to put their work in and usually get the less than desirable shifts, but is this at all feasible?
I am mostly concerned because I am a single mother who relies on M-F 6a-6p daycare. Thanks and I hope to get lots of replies!
I also am mainly interested in working a hospital setting, if that helps at all. And, when that time comes, it is likely that I would be able to deal with 12 hr shifts. I am mainly concerned with whether or not I will get a day shift.

i would probably say no. i hate to say it, but new grads are lucky to get jobs at all, much less the unit and schedule they want. obviously i can't say yes you will get what you want or no you won't get it, but just don't get your hopes up too high.

Hmm most hospitals I know have 12 hr shifts. 7-3 type jobs are more like procedural areas where you usually need experience first.
I would think someplace like the ER might be more flexible since they often have overlapping schedules and you aren't handing a standard group of patients back and forth between shifts.
