Newborn risk for constipation careplan

Published

I am a third semester nursing student doing my OB rotation this semester and need some help with a newborn care plan. The newborn was born to a mother who tested positive for THC and I have come up with this: Risk for Constipation R/T iron-fortified formula secondary to mother unable to breastfeed due to positive THC results. I am having trouble coming up with interventions and rationales. Any one with any suggestions?

Here's a suggestion, permanantly remove the child from that mother's custody, and make sure yhe newborn remains well hydrated.

Nursing intervention:increase fluids-fluids promote peristalsis. As a result of this decreased chances for constipation.
