Newborn nursery guidelines

Published

Hi all- just wondering if anyone is willing to share their facilities nursery visitor policy.... I work in a rural critical access facility and rarely we keep sick babies for long but when we Do we do not have a policy regarding visitors. I believe that is what the viewing windows are for. Don't get me wrong I think mom and dad are ok maybe a grandparent all for a certain amount of time but this weekend I had aunts and friends all begging to hold the baby and stimulating it as sats are in the 70s... I was not very tactful at 0200 let's just say that... Oops. What Do you all think? Any policies to share? Thanks for the vent :)

Only banded people can visit the NBN. That's usually mom and dad.

In the NICU, anyone can visit as long as they're with a banded person. The nurses are not shy about drawing boundaries if the infant seems affected, though.

In our NBN only those with the bands can come in to see a special care baby. Typically, that is Mom and Dad, but sometimes it'll be a Grandmom/Aunt/etc that has the second ID band.

NBN is only a banded adult. No one else; the only people banded are the mother and one other person, that was present during the delivery. Even if Dad, for whatever reason, was unable to attend the delivery, then he is not banded and we shred that second band.
