Sorry if this is the the archives somewhere. I did look!
How does the NET test work. I thought I read on MCCD website that they prefer you take the test at their location if you apply with them.
Is the NET test taken after you apply to the school or before? Can I take the NET now and have the scores ready to go once I apply sometime next year? Is the test taking arranged through the school, or some independant group?
Thanks for any insight. I am currently getting my questions together to speak with an advisor with MCCD, but want to make sure I understand how things work in Phoenix before I make a total fool of myself.
We just moved from Texas and the programs that were available in our area did not require the NET exam.
Guess its time to brush up on some math skills!

When I took the NET test a year ago for the MCCD, it tested on your basic math skills (fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, and alebraic expressions), reading comprehension (inferential reading, main idea of passage, and predicting of outcomes through reading the passages), reading rate, stress level, type of learner you are, basic science, and written expresion skills that you know. But the only scores that count are the scores from the MATH and READING COMPREHENSION portion of the NET. I can't remember the percentage you have to get correct on it in order to pass... it's either at least a 50% or 60%. It is a timed test that is done on the computer. When I took it for the MCCD, the math was 60 questions to be completed in 1 hour (though they may have reduced it now to 30 questions in 30 minutes as how it was when I took it for ASU last month), and 33 questions for reading in 30 minutes. I recommend the book called Study Guide for The NET, The HOBET, and The HELP Entrance Tests that I bought at the community college bookstore, and I saw an even newer version that was just Study Guide for The NET. It is very helpful to review everything in that book and to take the practice tests at the end of the book. And also there are practce tests online (just search NET practice tests on google and they should come up) that are very helpful. I took the NET before I turned in my nursing application for the MCCDNP. Because when I applied, you had to turn in your application with a copy of your NET scores and a copy of your fingerprint clearance card. I applied to the nursing program at MCC last October '07, and I took the NET at the MCC Red Mountain location August '07. I can't remember if you have to take it at the school you are applying to, because once you apply you can put up to 5 different schools you want to get put on the waiting list for the nursing program. But be sure to ask your advisor about all of this!! I am just telling you from what I remember. I know they've changed some of the pre-requisites and things since I have applied, so I don't know if any of this has changed as well. Sorry this message was so long, but I hoped some of it helps! :typing
