Hi allNurses!
I am a registered nurse in the philippines since 2011 but never practiced my profession. I am still residing here in PI but will be immigrating to US next year. I am planning to take the NCLEX so i can help my husband as we start building our own Family Together. I didn't take the IELTS/TOEFL yet. My intended address when i get to US will be in Seattle, WA but im planning to apply for New Mexico.
Questions:
•Will it be better if i apply to WA instead or just go with NM and just endorse to WA when i pass?
•Will it be okay/better if i start applying in NM while i'm here in Philippines or should i wait till i get to US?
•if ever i'll be approved by NM how long is the validity of my eligibility to take the exam? I'm thinking to take the exam in the US but we don't have any exact date yet on when i can get there because i'm still waiting for my interview at the embassy.
•will NM require me to take the IELTS/TOEFL if i passed the Philippine Nurses Licensure Exam which was given in English Format?
Hoping for response from everyone who have been in my situation!
Try applying for Washington state anyway since your husband cannot leave Washington state and that is your state of "primary residence". Since you graduated in 2011, you might be one of the lucky ones as your curriculum might pass their requirements or you might only have to retake OB and MS lecture and clinicals again. The worst thing that can happen (if it's like California now), outright rejection of your curriculum but it doesn't make your curriculum any inferior-just different (like the nursing curriculum of my school had pre-med courses and excess clinical duty . Usually states with a glut of unemployed new grad or experienced nurses (like Ca at 43-47%? unemployment rate) are rejecting out-of-state new grads and foreign new grad nurses and I blame those inconsiderate Fil-Am fake nurses who had their documents forged to look like they went to nursing school in the Philippines-that ruined it for the rest of us especially for those of us who graduated 2012+?. Better to know sooner than later if your app will be rejected than be stuck in a state where you do not want to practice like NM. If you have absolutely need to stay in WA, there are other ways of working as a nurse, although it may not be as a BSN RN right from the getgo. I'm not sure if Washington will do the same, but I read about those who had their paperwork routed from the California Board of Registered Nursing to the Board of Vocational Nursing to be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN in Ca, passed it, enrolled in a LVN to RN bridge program and are planning on later to go for their BSN- a financial sacrifice-yes but if you absolutely need to stay in WA, do so and build up your resume working in the health field so you have experience and your background will look more attractive to employers once you start looking for jobs. Check to see if WA requires a current licensure from PRC. If not, you're in luck. If they do, you will need to take the refresher courses for the PNLE (before you leave the Phil) to renew your license since you're coming up on 5 years as an inactive nurse.
If you do decide to apply directly to WA, after passing the CGFNS evaluation/eligibility,here's the application form to fill out. http://www.doh.wa.gov/portals/1/Documents/Pubs/669233.pdf

Yes she did take the PNLE and passed and she is lucky WA is one of her choices otherwise, other states require a current license from the country of nursing education. If she were to move to another state, they might require a current foreign license and since I'm assuming she took the PNLE in May/June or Nov of the same year 2011 and has not worked in Nursing at all nearing 5 years (Phil licenses expire in 3 years), she would have to take refresher courses to renew her Phil if she ever decides to use it to apply for another state, but since she currently is not applying to other states besides maybe NM and WA, she doesn't need to take refresher courses. Hopefully, WA doesn't change their rules like other states did in regards to foreign licensure.
Seriously? they are requiring nurses to take refresher course in the Phils with that case? Since when did they require? Obviously I don't have current info about PRC,haha I graduated last 2010 and been inactive since 2014, I did renew my license though but I don't have it yet. Yeah I know some states do require a license where you graduated.
I'm happy to read your post and glad that you persevered with the issue about your cases :) congratulations! if you don't mind, you can make an original post of this story so that many of the IENs especially nurses from the Philippines coming to CA will read and somehow help them to face concurrency issues and what they need to do.
P.S. about the number of cases, it depends on what year you graduated ( I graduated 2010), because I remembered during my time they required nurses nationally to obtain 5 cases for OB, MS, etc. but after the year I graduated they lowered it from 5 to three cases and it was a huge relief for the students.

I understand that i cannot work in WA with a NM license. As i said if they ask me to take the english exam then i have to take it. My goal for now is to pass the eligibility to take the exam and pass it ASAP. Besides im afraid to give it a try with WA due to the cuncerrency issue. Its gonna be a waste of money and time as well.
