New York Medical Career Center CNA program (nymedtraining.com)

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone took their CNA course? I'm planning to register for January classes and I'm a bit nervous. It was either this school or the Allen school--but Allen school is a bit expensive and they tried to push me into their Medical Assistant course. I'm also planning to take the PCT course they offer. I hope to get some feedback from former students or present ones.

Thanks!

I completed both the CNA & Nurse Tech programs at NYMed. It's in Flushing. The program is cheap ($800) and includes the textbook at no extra charge. The classes are fairly small (maybe 20 students or less). I thought the program was ok. They are accredited, which helps when you're looking for employment (the school assists with job hunting, but they mainly print out jobs from Craigslist, which I can do). The instructors are all doctors/nurses (as required by law). The material is not that hard to learn. You can take the take the state test at the same location after you complete your internship. It's a very small school with tiny bathrooms (their bathrooms are a bit filthy). At least the price is right, and the program is short (the CNA took 1 month and nurse tech was about 3 weeks I believe). The material might help you with the first semester of nursing school if that's your future goal as well. It can help you decide if nursing is what you want to do. The thing I liked best about the school was that it had a short program. The other schools took longer. CNA is better; it's hard to find jobs as a medical assistant and the pay is about the same. Nurse techs tend to get hired at hospitals and get paid more later on. You must finish the CNA first before you go on to the nurse tech program. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thank you so much for in-depth reply! I really appreciate it. I have decided to definitely go for the CNA program then Nurses Tech. I totally agree regarding MAs, there's not enough steady demand for them to reassure me. Plus the fact it takes over 7 months to complete and the cost is a bit steep to me. I contacted NY medical and they are having a discount if you register before Dec 30, the CNA program is a little bit over 900 but they'll bring it down to 540. I'm probably going to register for the nurses tech too since that would be such a huge discount together.

Thanks again!

PS.

EEPP on the bathroom situation. I'll need to bring some kind of disinfectant lol
