New-York-licensed-NP practicing as RN

What are the rules/expectations of a FNP practicing as a RN in an acute care hospital in New York?

I have heard that NP's practicing as a RN will be held to their highest level of incomplete/completed education and/or licensure, but that it depends on the state.

Are NP's in NY then expected to diagnose or be held liable for a misdiagnosis if they are employed as a RN in an acute care hospital?

I'm not entirely sure what the limits and expectations are if a NP wanted to do part time RN work, or if they decide to let their NP license expire so that they can go back to a RN career.

This has been discussed ad nauseam. I don’t know NY law but I do know that as a RN without hospital provider privileges, you can’t override a provider’s orders. All you can do is go through the chain of command (charge RN, nurse manager) if you disagree with the plan of care- but any prudent nurse should be doing that anyway.

Agree, take some time to search through previous posts before starting another one on the same topic that's been discussed 3000 times. And better yet, for your own piece of mind and protection of your license if it is such a concern, consult a nurse attorney or health law attorney familiar with such matters. That is the only way you'll get an authoritative answer. As your Nursing (an non-attorney) colleagues, there's only so much we can advise in this regard.

Hi, thank you, and I really appreciate your replies. Prior to posting, I did a search through AllNurses' search engine and wasn't able to find anything related to NY NP licensure laws. Perhaps I'm not using the correct search terms?
