New, unexperienced RN

Published

hello, anyone from Iowa?

I'm here in Washington and I am a newly registered Nurse in Iowa (just got my license in Iowa because f the concurrency issue). I would like to ask is the Iowa has a RN shortage? IS there a 100% assurance that I can be hired right away? I don't have any experience at all. your response is highly appreciated :)

Not sure if there is a true shortage or not, but I got hired right away and started a few days after passing NCLEX. The floor I work on hired 2 other new grads from my class and 4 others from other schools. Heck most of the crew is new and have been RNs for 2 years or less! But there can never be a 100% guarantee you will get hired.

I'm in Cedar Rapids. I don't know what it's like for the area of Washington. CR is iffy. Several of my classmates from my previous class didn't get a job until 6+months after passing the NCLEX. I had to repeat a semester so that's why I say previous class. The hospitals here are harder to get into and it also depends on the unit you want to try for. Right now I'm working in a Skilled/LTC facility- I was hired on as an LPN and saved up money to take my RN boards, which they upgraded me when I received my RN. Do you have an idea of where you want to apply at?

hi, so i am planning to Have my NCLEX in IOWA. and like wondernurse, i am an unexperienced international RN from the Phils (graduated 2010, passed NLE 2011). Can you tell me where to get a job that fits for me? even if it is LTC? as long as they will hire an unexperienced RN as i am. I am about to move to IOWA once i will pass my NCLEX. your response it highly appreciated.

Hi, i am also an unexperienced RN, but i am volunteering in a hospital right now, so by any chance, would the hospitals in IOWA, like LTC, will accept me because of my volunteer experience?
