Hey everybody!!! I just got my first travel assignment and I'm wondering what you experienced travel nurses do with your apt, your furniture, etc... Someone suggested selling everything, another suggestion was to put it all in storage... I don't neccessarily have anything with incredible sentimental value, but I'm a little nervous to just sell it all and be without anything except what I fit in a suitcase. Any thoughts on what has worked well in your experience? Thanks so much for any suggestions!!!! I'm so excited to start traveling but this issue is a bit of a stressor at the moment... I have a little less than a month to get it all squared away.

Keep your apartment, furniture, etc. for the time being until you make sure that travel nursing works for you. It's not for everyone and you wouldn't want to have to start over from scratch if it isn't. Also consider where you will go at times when there is a gap between contracts - not always voluntarily.
Lastly, before giving up your home educate yourself on the tax implications of being an itinerant worker (having no tax home), exactly what that means and whether it works for you. Read up on it at the Traveltax website.

I have all of my belongings at my parents house in the upstairs bedroom/bathroom. I also pay them monthly rent (which they claim) and that helps to keep me eligible as having a tax home.

Without knowing your living situation it has hard to advise you. Do you live in an apt or what? If you are in a lease, maybe they will let you downgrade to a smaller/cheaper unit? I would throw all my stuff in a studio or 1bedroom and hit the road!
You could also look at a roommate situation where you drop all your stuff with a friend and pay them rent.
