New TEAS V Science Section

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

Has anyone taken the latest version, the TEAS V? My test is coming up April 6. I have the ATI version V study guide, and the McGraw Hill book.

What should I be sure to study when it comes to the latest version of the test?

Oh that is strange. I'm on the same page (230). For that pair of questions, the book mysteriously does not give any explanation for the answers, just says 1. True, and 2. An embryo is an animal or plant in the early stages of development after fertilization...

Same book. Cover is Yellow under the title, red square to it's right, image of a female nursing student studying over most of the cover, with a white block to her right. There is no revision number for this book.

Now I'm wondering which answer is actually correct!

Yes. The second part, "An embryo is an ...." is the same, but not the first part. Weird.

Makes me worried about what else it has been telling me that is questionable.

I tried to find answer on Google, but am getting some pro and some con on whether or not differentiation happens in adult organisms. ????

Anyone else have same answer as my book or something different or other discrepancies?

I googled around too. I believe the answer in my book is correct, but the information is so new it is not yet completely understood. Research is still being conducted in this area.

Don't let it bog you down. You probably won't have a single question regarding stem cell's on your test. The answer was likely changed mid-print due to ongoing research. Most of what the book covers is not so new, and will be more established.

Here are the sections I missed from the Science part. Gives you a few points to study:

Describe the functions of the digestive system. p129-130

Describe the functions of the respiratory system. p127

Apply Mendrel's laws of genetics and the Punnett square. p152-153

Describe the structures and functions of nucleic acids p137-138

Explain the process of natural selection and adaptation. p136

Recognize that enzymes are protein molecules. p162

Use pH scale to identify acid and base solutions. p163-164

Identify reasons for conducting investigations. p112

Except for the nucleic acids, I knew all the material (or thought I did). Those questions were able to trick me though.

Yes, i'm not going to worry about it. But I had already emailed ATI about it earlier today, so I will see what they say.

Zeke - speaking of discrepancies in the book....

I just timed myself taking the Reading part of the first practice test in the book and I have a question -

Do the answers in your book for the Reading part of the first practice test match this:

Pg. 243

#6 is supposed to be D

# 12 is supposed to be C.

I question this because it is saying that the same sentence is both the summary sentence and the topic sentence.

What does your book say the answers are for these?

You got the broken book! I would ask ATI to send you a new one.

#6 is A, according to my answers on page 277. #12 is C. In fact, under the reasoning for #12, it mentions that option A is the topic sentence.

Good luck!

Dang it!!!!!

Would there be any way I we could somehow talk in real time and I could ck the rest of my answers???

I am taking TEAS V on 11/30/11..today is 11/28...I haven't even started studying yet!

I do have a study guide from ATI...is there anyone who took it without studying and got ok score?

All I need is overall score 70%.

Hello! :-)

I am taking the TEAS V on December 22. Its been 5 years since I took A&P, and over 10 years since I have taken Chemistry. I have a degree in biotech (2005) and I am currently a middle school life and physical science teacher. I have purchased the ATI study guide and both practice exams. Although I have read through every helpful post in this section I would still like to ask your opinion on the depth of material I should review for the test, specifically the science section. I have middle school, high school, and college textbooks for biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, physical and life science. Anything helps!

Specializes in None.

Not an expert .. But based on the practice tests a thorough reading of the ati material puts us above 90th percentile...since you have so much of science knowledge...try taking a mock exam...you might be surprised....

You'll get a ton of info lurking the existing TEAS threads here.

However, I agree that the best way to really know what you're up against is to take one of the practice tests before you start studying random material. I didn't see it written anywhere, but I was able to take each practice test twice, and only twice.

I would take one of them now, with the intent of not taking that one again until a few days before the TEASE. You'll get a good idea of what to study, and what you need to brush up on.
