Welcome! The only advice I can offer at this point is to find out exactly what your school requires for admission and do whatever you need to do to meet those requirements. Best of luck!

Hi, I have just finished my pre-req's and am starting the Nursing Program this Fall. I would suggest that you decide as early on as possible what school you want to transfer to and follow their curriculum- you don't want to waste money on classes that won't transfer! Meet with advisors, both at your current school and (hopefully) future school to see where you are and what you still need to do. Save, save, save!! Once you get accepted to your Nursing Program, they most likely will want a down payment to reserve your spot. You will also have to get updated on vaccines, a physical, criminal background check, and most likely CPR certified- all which are costly. (Wait as long as possible to get CPR certified since they usually have a one or two year expiration- aim to be certified right before you start the program so that it will take you through the one or two years of schooling) Also, most programs will recommend (STRONGLY) that you do not work during the program- so save early on. As far as studying, many people suggest study groups, but I personally did better on my own. Know your own strengths, if you need study groups-do it. If they start to drag you down, drop them! Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, please let me know. Best of Luck.:D

I completely agree. If you can save now it will help you tremendously once you are in the program. I will be graduating in December from the nursing program and I have found that not working has helped me more than ANYTHING! I have worked since I was 16 (I'm 35) and it was hard to give up having my own income but I keep thinking it will all be worth it. My classmates struggle to hold down full time jobs and go to school full time because they have too many bills. They have new cars and expensive tastes (fancy clothes, $100 purses...) and poor grades. I proudly drive to school everyday in an old beat up pick-up truck that is paid for, I have no credit card payments to make, I budget for every dollar coming in and going out - I have straight A's. Take my advice, eliminate all the distractions in your life NOW and nursing school will be sooooo much easier.

thanks everyone! Do any of ya'll have kids? I do.. 3 actually. So I'm wondering if I can do it.. I'm really nervous about getting my schooling paid for. I am actually hoping to have some left over to help with baby sitting and gas. I am a stay at home mom now so I don't have to worry about work getting in the way. Just afraid I wil have a hard time putting in study time.

What has been the hardest part of the program for you?

You CAN do it but you have to be disciplined in your studies. I have 3 children also so I understand. Thankfully, I have managed to "train" my family. When I have a test coming up I announce it to all... They know that I need my time and privacy when I study. My husband is wonderful and helps a lot (I couldn't do it without him). Just be sure you and your family realize what a huge commitment it is before you jump in with both feet!

I have to put my 2cents in also!

Nursing school is challenging, demanding, time consuming, and difficult and rewarding, it's crazy, frustrating, upseting, celebrations, failures, friends, Nursing school is what YOU make it, don't get caught up in all the politics! Always remember why you are there and what your desired outcome is. And having a supportive husband/partner is a huge huge huge advantage!

Ever want to chat Im here!

All the best!!!

You've already gotten some great advice, I just wanted to say hello from a fellow Tennessean! What part of TN are you from?

Oh..and I am also a stay at home mom right now (to 2 girls, ages 2 1/2 and 9 months), so I understand your concerns! But you can do it! :D

Hi! I'm from Southeast Tennesse.. Polk County. Right next to the NC, and GA line!. I have 2 girls 6 years and almost 4 months. I also have a sone that is about to turn 4. I keep telling my husband how much of a commitent this is going to be and I hope he understands. I stil have to work out childcare and getting my kids picked up from school. So I hope it works out alright!!

Thanks everyone for the advice.!!
