i don't know if we really need them..but i think my boyfriend got one for me for christmas. my friend said they are great for nursing school.

i think it is an added tool you can have on hand, i just bought one i haven't gotten it in the mail yet, but can't wait to get it lol. it's a palm pilot i bought the tungston e2 i have a friend who is a pharmacist and says its in-valuable. you can load books on it, take notes, phone numbers you can load right from your computer or get extra software, just sort of puts it all together in a small hand held device so your not carrying around a large pile of books.

It also depends on the school. Our school required PDAs. We bought them through the school and also had to purchase some software like tabers dictonary and drug guide from skyscape along with it.

I bought mine in my first semester in school and loved it. I still use it constantly on the floor especially with meds. whenever they have a palm version of your book get it that way instead. save your back for your patients.... not your backpack

Mine stays with me all the time. I too have a Tungsten E2 and LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. I have my Davis's drug guide, so I don't have to tote that darn book around everywhere. I have a program for dosage calculations, I had my instructor look over the calculations to make sure they were what we were doing and correct. I have a medical dictionary, Taber's, on it so again, I don't have to tote around yet another book. I can take notes with it. I have a program called Documents to Go, I can have PowerPoints, keep my typed class notes with me at all times. I have a program to calculate ABG's. LOADS of other things to make my time more efficient.

Do you NEED one, no. Once you have one will you ever be without one again, most likely No. I know I won't be without one again. It is just WAY too convenient. All my other classmates have to run back and forth looking up meds while flipping through a book. I simply type the drug into my PDA and BAM right there all the info I need.

WOOHOOO LOVE LOVE LOVE technology.

I love my pda. i will be starting my second quarter of nursing school next month and i can tell you it is very helpful in clinical.

I don't use one, and I am half way through. Maybe I will buy one for myself at graduation, though.

I think your program will tell you whether or not you need to have one.

I'm getting ready to start my 4th semester in January, and so far I haven't really thought about buying a PDA until now. I just accepted a job as an Advanced Clinical Tech for the Nursing Pool. I'm excited about it...I know it will really help with hands on experience. I hope I can work and go to school...

I don't have one, but I've heard they are nice to have. One of my fellow students uses hers often for drug lookups, etc.
