Hello all....OK...I have to go and register for the Fall 05 class on August 29. Since I can not wait to go and talk to advisor I decided to get some help from you. My pre recs are
Pre-Clinical Requirements
ENG 101 English Composition I 3
MAT 104 Mathematics for Health Science 1 3
PSY 100 Introduction to Psychology 3
BIO 425 Anatomy & Physiology I 2 4
This is for BMCC in New York.
When I was on student's menu (where you can check your grades and register and all that)..this is what I get...
ENGLISH COMPOSITION I ENG 101 3 PRE: ESL095
GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY PSY 100 3 PRE: ESL094
MATHEMATICS FOR HLTH SCI MAT 104 3 PRE: MAT012
ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY I BIO 425 4 PRE: CHE118 OR CHE121 OR
DEPT.PERMIT
So, when I click on BIO it gives me BIO110..oh I am so confused...and there is list of the some other courses......help....
Ok...so does that mean that I have to take CHE118 or CHE121 before I take BIO425. And by looking at this what is your suggestion to take this semester (please consider that I was out of school for past 15 years......also working full time....)...I CAN NOT WAIT TO START....Thanks

Most likely yes, that is what it means. Prerequities that have to be taken before you can take the classes required for the nursing program. Almost all classes have them. Darn things can really slow you down but you have to take them anyway. I would call your school just to be sure but like I said above, it looks like you will have to take the prerequities first.
That is what i thought too when I so it....I am going to talk to advisor to be sure. Thanks again....

Check your course descriptions. My school puts the pre-reqs for the class, if any on the course description as well.
Good luck to you! :)
Also If you feel that a different class will be more of a help to you than the pre-req listed ask the advisor if you can substitute it instead.
Example
I needed to take Basic Bio (Bio 01) or General Bio 1 (Bio 101) as a pre-req for A&P 1.
I asked my advisor if there was anyway that I could take Human Bio (Bio 100) instead, well I found out that they actually perfer nursing student's take Human Bio, as it is much more career related; but you have to ask.
Human Bio is A&P, just not as detailed and with out a lab. It would be a great class to prepare you for the ''real'' A&P 1 & 2. If you school offers it ask about taking it as a pre-req, I bet they will let you.
That is a good idea. I will go on Monday and talk to advisor....I finished school in Europe so all this is totaly confusing to me....I will let you know what advise did I receive. Also, what do you think is good to start with? I would like to take minimum 2 and maximum 4 subjects (I think 4 will be little pushing but...). What combination I should start with? Thanks
I guess you have already had your transcript evaluated? I know the nursing program I will attend states foreign transcripts must be evaluated...either by them, or an outside company.
Also, have you tested any? It may be possible to test out of the pre-req for math.

I'm glad you've decided to talk to the counselor because this could be a HUGE mistake. Despite all of the good intentions here, no one will really be able to advise you better than a school counselor. It will save you a lot of time and trouble.
A visit to the school counselor saved me from wasting a semester of pre-reqs because I was registered not for the wrong course, but in a course that would not get enough hours to get into nursing school ... something I didn't know about at the time.
This also saved me a year a half wait for nursing school ... since I was able to apply and be accepted before my school was flooded with too many applicants and had to institute a waiting list ....

Thank you so much...It is really unbelievable how much is there that people do not know. I usually go to the schools web site and that is all of information that I have...apparently not enough....Is there any question that I should ask an advisor? And how all that works? Sorry for too many questions.....But I would like to save my time and finish it ASAP....

I attend BMCC and have finished just about all of my pre-reqs. I had already completed Eng 101 before attending BMCC so I won't be too helpful there; however I have some insight into Bio 425. The catalog might say that Chem 118 or Chem 121 can be used as a pre-req for 425. In actuality Chem 121 is the course that is needed.
I suggest before doing anything speak to Mr. Sierra. He is the nursing program advisor. He will put you on the right path.

ditto to this A&P is a 200 level course which means that you "usually" have to have a 100 level bio with lab course as an intro. Chem also has an intor course that many must take (however this is not as common as the bio prereqs). Good luck and don't worry it will go by faster than you think, and hey the time is going to pass no matter what you do with it, so get busy.
Thanks for the suggestions...I'll definitely see about chem 121....But why write either when there is only 121 required? Odd. Thanks to all.....I'll let you know how it goes.....
