Hey all! Any advice on how to tell an employer that you're breaking a two year contract? I have completed 1/2 years of my contract and my husband is about to be medically discharged from the military. We are moving out of state due to limited job opportunities post-military. I will be able to break my contract without financial obligation. I am concerned that one of my two managers will be upset that I am leaving and may not give the most stellar references. Any way to phrase the situation without angering my manager? I am giving 2 months notice and have a good relationship with current leadership.

Based on what you have said above, your best option is to say something like "I love working here, and I don't want to leave. Unfortunately, my husband needs to relocate to a different state." I mean, what are they going to say? Tell you to remain here and not go with your husband? I can't see any manager giving you a hard time.

Relocating to another state because a spouse is moving for work is probably the best reason of all to quit early.
