I just wanted to "introduce" myself. I was laid off from my office position that I held for 19 years, kind of a bummer. But I am looking at the oppurtunities ahead. I decided to look into nursing programs. I plan to take A&P over the summer. I am scheduled to take the Teas for Dutchess Boces (NY) on 6/1, wish me luck. I already took the Teas for WCC a couple weeks ago; my first attempt and only 4 weeks to study. I did not do as well as I had hoped on my first attempt at the teas. But trying to stay positive - and studying! I really hope to get into this boces program.
Anyone have any advice to prepare for LPN program? I have reviewed biology, brushed up on my math, what else can I do?
Anyone here take classes in NY at Duchess boces (or any boces program) in NY, and willing to share your experience?
Thank you! Kathy

:wlcmghrt: and congratulations on starting nursing school. The only advice I can offer is to purchase the book: Test Success For Beginning Nursing Students. This book is great for those who are just starting out. It has helped me to know how to answer nclex style questions. Just read alot , study and relax you can do it.

:icon_hug::balloons::monkeydance:Congrats on making the decision to pursue nursing. It is a special career but takes a caring and honest person.I am starting my second quarter of my LPN program in september i started last year and had to takeaome time off :tbsk:due to health issues but I am back in full swing now:clphnds: and I must say it is no joke:eek:alot of reading and studying and sometimes alot of self studying.I am not attending BOCES but most programs have similar curriculums. The most I can tell you is buy a good A&P book I highly recommend (THE HUMAN BODY IN HEALTH AND ILLNESS)it is amazing and very visual I got an A with that book. Also get a book that can help you with medical terminology so you can get familiar with the terms that nurses and doctors use that will be all over your readings and tests:lol2:.If you want to prepare for the entrance just study your math and practice especially fractions and percentages they usually tend to hit you with alot of those mainly because med math is mostly fractions/percentages. Any questions feel free to ask!
