New to Staff Development

Hi guys! I'm moving from a night staff nurse position into an educator position on the same unit. I'm not sure that anyone has ever been this excited to make this change, but I know I'll have lots of questions for everyone here. Cross your fingers for me!

    Congratulations on the new job, Eric. I've been in Staff Development for most of my career -- and often wonder why more people don't choose this specialty. It has a lot to offer. Feel free to post your questions. I'm sure some of us experienced folks will be happy to answer them -- or at least try to.

    If you haven't done so already ... you might want to check out a few things:

    1. NNSDO -- The National Nursing Staff Development Organization. They have lots of resources to offer (a journal, conferences, books on getting started in staff develpment, etc.)

    2. The national organization for your particular clinical specialty may also have resources designed to help educators in their field.

    I just noticed that you specialty is NICU. NANN and ANN have lots of good materials to use in staff development. AWHONN does too.

    As you may or may not know, I spent 14 years in NICU staff development before moving on to hospital-wide projects at a children's hospital. It's a great field.
