It is apparently based on a upcoming video game being made by people who used to work at "BioWare" and "Naughty Dog" and is being bankrolled by "Wizards of the Coast", who made massive amounts of money from something called "D&D".
In it there are humans who have reached a star cluster full of solar systems with habitable planets full of amazing technology on slower than light generation ships but there is just one problem. There are evolved humans who reached them thousands of years before the normal humans and they dictate what planets the normal humans can colonize which is only a few hundred of the millions. Most normal humans have accessible to good planets that give them a comfortable middle class lifestyle but some are left with "Crapsack" worlds that are polluted. The evolved humans, "Celestials", have much more political, military, and scientific power than the humans. Their government is a monarchy with several families sharing power. Kind of Game of Thronesesq but there are a lot of influences from "Mass Effect" as well.
There are genetically engineered creatures created by the Celestials as well. Some of the normal humans who left Earth's solar system have been genetically modified to be smarter as well.
It has a huge sense of wonder few other sci fi and fantasy have made me feel.
The Celestials and "Uranics" who remind me of the Star Wars force users or Biotics from Mass Effect, humans who can interface with Celestial technology can use their minds to assemble buildings from material with technology in it. Some form of "Magic Rocks" but sci fi. Like this.
With this neuralink technology by the 2060s-2100s could we see people building houses like this with their minds if society doesn't collapses or we have a nuclear war?
Also time dilation affects their space travel. They take a few weeks or months to get to another solar system while during the time it takes to get that solar system years have passed by in the solar system they departed from.
Not surprisingly the guy from Interstellar is in it.
The book is exciting and makes me dream of what the future could be like and it has an exciting new take on space travel.
I also consider it a warning about having military, scientific, and economic power being concentrated into a small group of people or single civilization.
"The Expanse" was a warning too. It portrays a world where we carried our problems into space and allowed massive inequality.
We should be excited to build a cool future but without all the bad stuff.
