New RN

Published

Hey everyone, quick question. I recently graduated with my ADN but I was an LPN for 2 years prior to graduating. Do you think as a new grad at a nursing home facility will honor my LPN experience and hike up my RN wage a bit? Or I will still remain at the base pay?

It has been my experience that starting pay is negotiable. I have accepted the offered pay a few times over the years only to find out RN's doing the same job as me were being paid more, sometimes a lot more for various reasons. These days I wait for their offer and immediately ask for more based on (and here you will need to tailor it) years of experience, previous pay levels, cost of living etc.

I think it will depend on the organization and the role LPNs served.  While both are a nurse, it is a different level of nursing and depending on the job description, different skill levels. While you are not a new nurse, you would still be considered a new RN, so depending on that you could likely make the same salary or hourly wage as a new RN

When I went from LPN to RN BSN had 5 yrs LPN experience within same facility,  given .25/hr more for "experience".  Always ASK for more than base --nothing ventured, nothing gained.
