New RN

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi fellow nurses and soon-to-nurse!! I just want to introduce myself. I am a new RN, graduated in May, took my boards in September. Why did I wait until September to do my boards? Well, I was burnt out from nursing school, so I went away, far away and spent 44 days, just for me, and my boyfriend, who supported me thru nursing school. I studied for roughly 4 weeks and thank God, I passed with 75 questions. That was one wicked tough exam, so glad I don't have to do it again. :)

So, my next challenge is getting a job, which is proving tougher than passing the boards LOL. Today, I received a temporary job offer, it's working for a daycare for disabled adults. The job entails checking vitals signs and giving meds to some patients who are on regular medications. I was told that the facility will not interview me, the interview I had with the agency is sufficient, also, no training is provided, but that there will be other nurses to help me, if I needed help. To me that is scary, as a new RN, we are looking to at least have a proper orientation about the facility and also go over the expectations and responsibilities of the job. And at the very least, have some training. Due to these facts, I decided to turn down the position. However, I have an interview on Friday, 2/19/16, for a permanent positions at a magnet hospital as a NICU RN. I feel nervous about the position, but I know the unit will provide appropriate orientation and training. Please wish me luck!!

If you have any insights for me since I am a newbie, please do not hesitate to provide tips and helpful advise. TIA :)
