New RN, Need info on Independant Home health care

Specialties Home Health

Hello, I am a new grad RN. I live in Oregon and just passed my Nclex. An elderly couple I use to work for as a caregiver would like to hire me as a nurse. Im not sure how this works or what I need to cover by bum, any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

So I know I need , but is there anything else need? Are there any websites or places I can call to get this information? When I was working as a caregiver for them, I didn't have license on the line. Now I just passed my nclex and they want to hire me and I have no idea if I need like med sheets, vital sign sheets, have regular contact with her DR etc. The person has a g tube that I flush and clean, I do vitals, give her daily meds and the rest is basic caregiving and companionship.

Any help at all is appreciated, I worked soo hard to get here I want to make sure I do everything the right way!

What you are talking about is private duty not home health. Honestly, sounds like a terrible idea for a new grad nurse. No chance to develope skills and knowledge.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Well to start you need a plan of care signed by a physician as everything you described requires an Rx. Flushing & cleaning a GT--needs a signed order. Any medication--signed order and MAR.

I think you don't know what you don't know and are taking a tremendous risk as a new grad

Specializes in retired LTC.

You'll need to figure out how to account for your taxes.
