Hey everyone,

Well I recently became a RN but I do have 4 years of LVN experience. Prior to becoming a RN I had been working in LTC and wish to continue to do so however I am wondering why places are offering me less than what I made as a LVN. So I wanted to ask some of you about the pay for ltc in the Dallas area. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I was an LVN in the D/FW area for four years and earned my RN license last year. The vast majority of my experience is in LTC. Since I had been earning competitive money as an LVN, I also had to deal with hiring managers who offered me new grad RN pay rates that were less than what I had been earning as an experienced LVN.

LTC facilities in the D/FW area will pay a new RN between $24 and $32 hourly, but the majority of these places will pay between $25 and $28. The only LTC facilities that pay RNs in excess of $30 hourly are the ones owned by Kindred (Lone Star Comprehensive, the Plaza at Mansfield, the Plaza at Ridgmar, etc.), but the work at these facilities is harder than any other LTC that I've worked before. In addition, Brentwood in Dallas might pay you more than what you were earning as an LVN.

I was earning $27 as an LVN at a nursing home last year. However, the average new grad RN pay rates in the D/FW area are less than that, and hiring managers are acutely aware of it. I am currently working PRN with an hourly rate of $36 at the rehab hospital where I am employed because the full-time pay rate of $25 hourly for a new RN is less than what I am accustomed to.
